23 days to go on the peafowl-- practically forever!
Do call ducks take 28 days?

How many days after they hatch will it take hubby to figure out that they're not chicks?

I wish I could go to the swap, but I have to work that day!

I think this will be the year of the never-ending hatch. Started in February and still going. 1 bator has Wyandottes & Orpingtons (due 5/7) and the other has runner ducks (due 5/23), on our 2nd broody (due 5/17) and another I think may be broody.

Where is that link to hatch-a-holics anonymous?

I think I might have a broody too. never had one before, so waiting to see if that's what it is. She's been hunkered down under the nest box (her usual spot to lay) on NO eggs. Took her out, she ran around for a few minutes, ate and dustbathed, then jumped back in the box. Doesn't seem to be eggbound, so maybe I'll give her a few eggs when I get home to see what happens.

Okay, survived the storm - it wasn't bad here until about 1:30 in the morning - some of the creepiest Thunder I have ever heard in the way it rumbled. No other damage - we were blessed in that many of you got hammered and we didn't really get anything at my house.

It has got to stop raining though! A couple of my big hens have gotten the sniffles for which I am concerned - just two of them in the last day - they're eating hardy and drinking and are just as cranky as can be.

Sorry haven't been on too much lately, it looks like we have a contract on our home - now we just need to see it and sign it. Closing will probably be around 6/20 if this happens. boooo hoooo

Did the MRI Monday, found out yesterday that two of the four tendonds supporting the rotator cuff are really showing a lot of wear and tear along with my bicep muscle - they are talking surgery possibly....

- yeah, that'll be helpful while I'm trying to pack out the house

Meagan: Looks like no more chickens for me - or ducks....booo hoo again - now we have to sell off most of the dang flocks and babies - it stinks! Depending on what house we get we may be able to sneak a few chickens into the backyard and down with us. Ordinances of course being obeyed where ever you go.

Sounds like everyone has been busy and Renee trust me your hubby will know within the hour because when the ducks hatch they whistle peep - not cheep - it is definitely a different sound.

Gotta go work on selling stuff off on CL and start more packing!

Shoot, I haven't even started a cup of coffee yet.

If anyone is interested in a nice Blue Jersey Giant and two Black Jersey Giants let me know - they are still young yet - probably about 12 weeks and I know I cant take them with. These were eggs I hatched so they should turn into very nice birds!

Who did you order chicks from? (nosy neighbor!)

Does Cookie miss me?

Cookie doesn't miss anyone. 'Cept maybe Nick. I had to move her cuz she insists on being with him and I don't want her with him. Last time I saw her she was running form U. George.

Can't say who I ordered chicks from. Just thought you'd be glad for me that they survived the trip in this horrible rain and tornado stuff.

No prob.

I thought you had broken down & ordered some Scots Dumpy chicks from Sandhill. If you ever do decide to order something from them, let me know. They still seem to be one of the only resources for Cuckoo Dorkings.

Sure thing. Did you get my connections about the Dorking from NH? I do like the Scots but can't just now. Though they do sell out fast. What do you think of the Swedish Flower hens from Green fire? I would def need another coop for those.

And perhaps give up something else. Perhaps orps. But orps lay well and decent sized eggs.

Got the connection from Trish. Joseph isn't selling chicks this year. I have Silver Grey, White & Colored Dorking eggs in the incubator right now.

The SG's are from 2 different sources. The White & Colored are from a breeder in Illinois.

Not nuts about the Swedish Flower hens. Don't know why... they just don't do it for me. I am giving up my Lav, Split & Wheaten Ameraucanas... gonna give the project chicks a whirl & see if they come through after they start laying. If not, they can go too. I need to make room for the new Dorkings & John really likes the Dominiques, so they'll stay till we see how they grow out. They were flighty as chicks & I'm not a fan of nutzy birds.

Speaking of which... The chicks we have in the big kid brooder in the garage are making me crazy!
barnie.gif
They flip out everytime I walk by or open the brooder! I think I'm just going to have a big chick sale to move some out!!!!!
