Now to my credit, I did in fact turn her down at first...then I came back to my right mind and accepted! LOL

So we've worked out terms as to a pickup date and I will be getting them next Saturday if that works for Renee...probably in the afternoon as I have to do two mail routes. Now if you're very, very nice....I may give you eggs seeing as how you've given me at least 2 dozen del eggs.

Yeah --- you tell him, Trish!!

Afternoon will be fine.

Tim -- I wouldn't have sold them except as a full set. I don't need a rooster around that doesn't match hens. I'm only keeping the Wheaten Ameraucana girls around to keep Gandalf busy. Once I grow out some White Ameraucana girls for him, the Wheatens are outta here too. You might like them -- they lay an ice blue egg.
I do have a ton of Lav & Split chicks left.

I'm back & forth with the Orps. I'm really just tweaked that someone local is not breeding them in a way to improve them & I can't sell them for what she is! I have an actual time & monetary investment in them -- that should have some value. Mine are really high quality, but that doesn't seem to matter. Neither does the fact that I'm breeding them for actual improvement. I've been really stressed out about it.

is it a male flower or female? you can hand polinate the female flowers just pluck the male flower peal off the yellow flower petal part and then rub the anther on the stigma of the female flower.

I would do this last year when we got so much rain the bees were not arround. but lots of times male flowers come on first and you don't get a female for a while.

It's 2 males. I once saw a segment on tv about hand pollinating with a paint brush. Maybe I'll fill a paint brush (tiny one) with male stuff and hold on to it until the female flowers open. (in a plastic bag) Worth a shot...I would have squash in a few weeks after that. Summer Sqush in MAY? Now that would be novel. But I might have to put the plant outside so it has enough soil to actually grow a veggie on it.

Well Trylin - I did't edit out anything. So there!

Renee I just wanted hens that are laying colored eggs now. I don't care what's what. I just need a few more eggs for my customers. My young Dels are beginning to lay but it will be a couple more weeks before I can put them on layer. Not to mention this horrid cold and rainy weather isn't helping.

I might as well go public. I've got some Barred Rock chicks in the brooder of the Jeremy line. Haven't checked my e-mail to Trylin but I've got another going down.. I have no idea what's going on. They are in my office as usual and on medicated feed and water only. Everything about this chick looks off. Legs and toes skinny and while I'm feeding it yogurt I"m not hopeful. I have heard this line is not a healthy genetic line. I won't say where.

Now for a pic of my orps from Jody. They for the most part are doing well. As are the silkies and orp from Claudia. Though the orp is not blue nor whatever. I have no idea what color it is. I do have a lav orp that has some black feathers, which is fine by me.

notice the two in the front how much smaller they are than the other. Not sure why that is. The others are good size though.

Went and picked up my mothers day present today. I wonder if anyone (dh) will notice that the silkies in the brooder now are much smaller than they were this morning??? Put the older kids out in their coop today. Gonna be cold tonight but they were more scared than anything else. Mumbles is so upset! My newbies are blue partridge, lavender/split and one that may very well be a porcelan. I hope so! 5 new babies so Happy Mothers Day to me!!! Hehehe!

I believe you bring the birds and a cooler with ice to him. Go away for a few hours and come back to pick up "dinner". Let me know if you decide to try him.

Ben Shaw is great two thumbs up! He's a tiny bit pricey (3.00/bird or rabbit) but totally worth it if you don't want to deal with it yourself! I'm just outside of Albany NY myself in Valley Falls

I have to hatch enough first , then process!!! Maybe in the fall. I just know if I have extra roos, I won't want to process them.

Ok guys. I have a hen with a prolapsed vent. I have given her 2 sitz baths, cleaned her up with a diluted betadine solution, used a little aloe with lidacaine(for numbing) and prep H for anti inflammatory. I have pushed it in 3 times today. She is in the bathroom with the shade drawn, in a cage. She has H2O and some food. The first time I pushed it back in she laid an egg right after and pushed her vent back out. Anybody have luck with hens that have a prolapsed vent? What is her prognosis? All thought welcome.
Thank you,
Ginny

Ginny, I would keep her as calm as possible and feed her things that won't encourage egg production. Keep and eye on her. You didn't say what breed she was.

I wish you the best.

Rancher,
She is a giant white from mcmurray. She is just over a year old. I have her in the darkened bathroom to discourage egg production. What foods will also discourage egg production?
Thank you,
Ginny
