Happy Mother's Day to all you chick mommas and people mommas too.
The 5 silkies are still going strong. 2 of them play at "bump chests" sometimes. I hope they are both roos and that is ALL the roos I have in the bunch. They are 2 of the smallest ones, which doesn't make sense for roos, but then NOTHING makes sense to me when it comes to silkies.
Annie's 4 are escape artist. The little Peach colored one I am calling Houdini and the chimpmonk one is the Assistant. The little yellow ones are NORMAL CHICKS....but they are the only 2 normal ones I have. And one of them is a roo. Looks like I am gonna have a lot of roo stew this fall.
Boldie Hawn is the first to try everything. First out the pop door in the morning, first out the people door to free range in the afternoon. Sometimes the ONLY one out to free range. Today she ran down the ramp, grabbed a piece of greenery and jumped back in the door and gave the leaf to another hen. She thinks she is a roo too. Must be something in the air this time of year.
I am getting one or two eggs a day. One of them was even in the nest box. Of course I put the nest box right where I always find the eggs. LOL...but if it works, who can blame me?
Ray made the nest boxes so they hang on 2 screws on the wall. That way I can move them if someone goes broody in one of them OR move them to where the eggs are being laid.
