Well I went to pick up a pair of Red- Golden Pheasants. They were great, put them in the pen with my very calm Peafowl, watched them all day to see if there would be any issues. Nothing. Went to bed, woke up this morning and the female is gone. I thought she was big enough not to fit through the chain-link fence but apparently I was wrong. This is awful. Sad day here. He is now in a different enclosure with chicken wire over the fencing. Alone.

So sorry to hear about your loss.

Hope things improve for you real soon.

Just want to say I'm sorry for all the trouble some are having. Try not to be to discouraged. Not sure there is much I can do for anyone except offer my sympathy. For those who lost birds either. The only thing I have in birds laying are my Delaware and I'm still working on them. Anything else (orps and Br's ) are either not laying yet or just starting.

Just the same take care and chin up. Things will get better.

Is there anyone here considering ordering or have considered ordering from Green Fire farms? I am but can not afford the dozen chicks necessary to secure a guarantee. I'm sure we could order an assortment of chicks if you prefer a different breed than myself. I have not decided since that would depend on what others prefer.

They no longer have the Yellow Lemon orpingtons. Does any one know why?

Thanks,

Rancher

They have some beautiful birds, however, none of which I need, I am still looking for some Lav orp pullets, maybe I'll find some at the Sept 25th show. I'd even settle for a couple of LF Cornish game if I can find them. --- Their Chocolate Orpingtons Are really pretty, BUT- I can't afford 100$ or more per bird at this point in my life.

Arent those lemon orps beautiful? I"d love some. There have been some eggs & chicks for sale on, I think, either featherbid, or bidbird lately.

Thanks. That last Roo I lost was a real blow, like one of those "I have no idea how to recover from" sort of losses.

I know, the one I have left is nice, he's not chopped liver, but he is not anywheres CLOSE to what I lost, its like the difference between winning Best in Show and Best of Variety...

I have a young Roo I can save out, but who knows if he'll turn out as nice as his daddy was. I'm going to maybe save a couple extra Roos from this last batch of chicks too and hope they don't get eaten over winter, I hate growing stuff out over the winter!

I decided I was going to just take the checkbook and go buy the darn wire fencing I need to make the one pen secure. Should be all sorts of fun at almost eight months pregnant! My husband was looking at electric fencing online, I dunno if he finally felt bad enough or what, but I am so not holding my breath that he'll actually bother to buy/put it up. I wanted to ask why bother now, that I have either given away the nicest stuff or its dead. Sigh.

I suppose if he gets the fencing up I might see if anyone has some stock at the Crossroads show, I won't be able to go but I have transport back. I could have him shop for me too I guess, I did wonder if there would be lots for sale or not there? I sure wish I could go, talk about your lousy timing! (I'm due Oct 20th, so I can't plan on going anywheres, totally messed up all my fall plans!)

I wish I could afford some Choc Orps! I'd totally split an order of chicks with you, but with all the medical bills from my pregnancy our money is awfully tight! I actually only want them to make Chocolate Ameraucanas, lol How much are they running for those now?

My point is sure we can't afford a dozen chicks but if we ordered together then we could get a few of what we each want. Though i must admit there are more than a few of what they have that I want.

At $100 a chick I might be able to spring for three. Risky I know but I'm old and life is short. If more than one person ordered the same breed that would be good for both of them. I have no doubt there are those who can afford at least two chicks.

Lady I get the "none of which I need" but then that covers just about all the chickens we have I think.

As for Lav orp pullets, if you are patient spring will be here before you know it and I'll have either chicks or eggs. Mine have just started laying.

Now is there anyone who would seriously consider ordering something from Green Fire? I am sure if you started dumping your change in a jar by spring you'd have enough for two ($100 chicks) at least. If there were 6 people who each bought a chick of one breed with the agreement to share eggs at the appropriate time it could be done.

We can do this,

Well try to relax and focus, you've got bigger fish to fry , as they say. Make sure you have a healthy happy baby. K? Chickens can come later.

Perhaps if we could see your set up we might be able to figure something out. I'm sure I missed the posting on who you lost and how. I did go back over all the postings but couldn't find it.

Just have a healthy baby and we'll still be here after and together your chicken friends will help find a solution if we can.
