Well
welcome-byc.gif
from E. Syracuse. My son is stationed in AL (air force). He's been in for a few years. Gonna be a lifer I think..

Now for your poultry situation. If you have no chickens now then this is what I've got. Delaware, Barred Rocks, Lavender orpingtons, white orpingtions, black orpingtons , buff orpingtions, a blue black splash hen (to get more blue orpingtings with ). Some EE's and a couple of frizzles. Oh and I have some RIR's and a friend has the roo so I will probably hatch some of those too. She has SLW and I can probably trade her for some of those if you want.

I hatch in December and if all goes well will have more than one breed. If you expect to wait until spring to get chickens then you contact me. Because I owe you, whatever I give you is free of charge. My dad was stationed at Drum and we lived in Sack Harbor. You just let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Thanks,

Rancher

Sorry, Barn Swallow, I'm not familiar with that area of the state. But I hope you find just what you are looking for in your new home.

OK, I don't know where I should post this question, so redirect me if I need it. I thought of starting a new thread in this forum, but it looks to me like the forum is pretty well organized into just one thread per state/non-US country or area. And I don't really think it belongs in the Buyers forum, as I'm not shopping at the moment (except in the sense that all of us are never immune to the right price for the right bird).

I want to know where the breeders and farms are. In particular, I have a friend looking for a white runner duck (female), and I'll probably want ducks someday and am vaguely mulling over Cayugas and Runners. Now that I love my Americanaunas, who are probably better categorized as EEs, I am starting to ponder obtaining--eventually--carefully bred Americaunas. And looking at the hatchery catalogs and web pages from breeders on the west coast is very exciting...but...isn't anyone around here raising these birds? I mean, I can drive from here (I'm just south of Rochester) to Cayuga lake in an easy afternoon. Why on earth should I have to have Cayuga ducks shipped from Oregon?

So this is my invitation to you New York bird lovers to share what you know about local sources--even if they aren't local to me in particular, because probably someone in your area wants to know how to "buy local" too. Where did you get your birds? Do you breed and/or sell stock, and what breeds if you do? I don't mean to draw particular offers away from the appropriate forums; you know where the actual "birds/eggs for sale" posts go. I mean if you are a breeder or know one, let us know the whos, whats, and wheres.

I bought my birds from Nature Berry farm in Macedon. My birds were healthy, and I could return the one that turned out to be a rooster (if I could bear to say goodbye to his sweet face!). It's a nice family business, and birds there look to me to be living a good life. Most of the stock is not bred there, though. I believe they do breed their own hybrids (Golden Comets and Black Queens) about which I have heard good things.

Thanks for the welcome,

We are leaving Oklahoma October 17th and will be spending a week in WV visiting some relatives and will be heading into the Fort Drum area around Oct 24th to spend several days looking for houses to either rent or buy... Hope to be in something before Hubby has to officially report November 10th...

Once we get settled and depending on where we get settled in YOU BETCHA I Am Gonna Be On The Look Out For Some Feathered Friends

Well now you can see what I have in my previous posting. I do have two women nearby. One has SLW and the other has , Dorkings, Silkies and I'm not sure but I think she has Ameracuanas too. She does post here but for some reason I haven't seen her on and she won't answer my e-mails. She does have Lav orpingtons too.

Now don't forget to tell the realtor you want a place zoned so you can have chickens. I don't expect to be going anywhere soon. Keep in touch. Oh and I'm sure I can get you silkies too.

We wont be bringing our flocks or livestock...

One of those things were we had to be realistic since we dont have a home there yet and would hate to get there with the circus and not find a place that suits our poultry & Fowl addiction.. So we have been very blessed by our Okies in the BYC friends for their willingness to buy out our flocks and be home to a few of our livestock animals(goats ect)

Its been a bitter sweet time for us these past couple of weeks since we got the new PCS orders, but with anything we look forward to the new adventure that the Lord has for us and we cant wait to take in the sights and sounds of a new place and hopefully make friends with those who are just as crazy as we are..
