She's in Q yes, but she's not contagious-sick. It's bacterial or physical, the vet wasn't 100% sure which, though we are leaning toward bacterial.

Well I have posted some pics of my orps on the Lavender project or something thread and you might be interested in having a look cuz I might be hatching in mid spring. I suspect they will be splits since I don't like the lav roo very much. Oh and some BBS or blues too.

What is 7 months in weeks? (Cuz everyone talks about how many weeks til they lay) So that's 28 weeks for both of us. That's about average, in my experience. I haven't had one single breed start laying before 26 weeks of age, so I'm not sure how people get 21 - 24 weeks being "average age" they start laying. I need to find out what breed caused that 21- 24 week laying age, cuz I wanna get me some of those.

I want to try 1 each of some heritage breeds, but I don't want to take the risk of loosing of them in shipping or the first few weeks. So, I was thinking of adding an "extra" 1 or 2 chicks to each of the breeds, and if the "extras" are alive and healthy by the time they're feathered out, I could sell them.

The pullets I'm thinking of adding are: Dominique, Partridge Chantecler, Speckled Sussex, Buff Orp & Rhode Island White;
I haven't decided which breed of rooster I want so right now it's: Partridge Chantecler, Speckled Sussex & New Hampshire.

Well there's my problem. I don't have a single one of the breeds you have. Mine are all Ameruacanas, mutts, brahmas and D'uccles. Oh and one OE. LOOOOVE her. An egg a day at 3 pm, like clockwork. (ok, maybe she lays at different times but when I go down at 3-4 her egg is there every day) BUT she was 26+ weeks when she started to lay.

My leghorns started at 17 weeks and haven't stopped yet! I keep wondering when the poor girls will molt!

Is there anyone from the Watertown area? I am looking to start my flock this spring, I am looking for some sussex, jeresy giants, bhrama, buff oprpingtons. If anyone knows where I could start with this it would be appreciated. I would like to start with chicks so my children and I can raise them together. Thanks.
