NY chicken lover!!!!

The little bit of snow we got yesterday is gone. Going out to finish the 2 Wood Duck nest boxes my Woodies and Mandarins are going to want soon. I sure hope I get some ducklings this spring.

If not, they still are awfully pretty. Tonight we'll be taking the eggs out of the turner for hatch #1 of the year.

Cass- chicks should be here on the 1st

Have more in another bator on Friday - due March 16. Really need to get the brooder set up.....

The 1st is a Thursday....If it's ok with you, I'll come get them Saturday. Tell me how much money to bring. OH!!! Maybe I'll have blue eggs....want me to bring what I collect the 2 or 3 days before Saturday? (Won't be many, do you have an eeny teeny 'bator?)

if my shop door is open, I find eggs in the sawdust pile under my tablesaw. They hide them everywhere!

/sigh.. I make and buy such nice nesting boxes.. and what do I see today? I run out to my garage after hearing a very very loud egg song (way too loud to be at the coops).. and..

Someone.. actually TWO someones .. has found my open bag of pine shavings in the garage.. :p

Great shot My golden Comet followed me into the garage yesterday and was having a crazy time in this huge bag I have a bale of straw in.She cracks me up since she hasn't laid an egg in almost a year. I call her Menapause Mac. My husband says I should get rid of her like a "real" farmer. I tell him there are just pets with benifits. I will act like a real farmer when he buys me a farm . I really should carry my camera with me.

Last night we found one of my mille fleur d'uccle pullets with an egg stuck part way out her rear. I think the egg was too big for a first egg. The picture that comes to mind to describe it is like a cow casting her withers. My poor baby! DH rinsed her under warm water and was able to get the egg to come loose. She seems to be getting around better today. I just hope she can recover and not have future problems.

Trylin - you keep telling me how nice the NN's are but you ain't given me some eggs to hatch. FYI , I expect to start this bator up on Friday. Again. Will be calling on Renee for my 6 amer eggs too.

Tab - I hope your girl is alright. I don't get hybrids cuz they lay such large eggs and I've read they are more prone to prolapse. Your poor girl must be grateful to have some one help her out.

Featherz - I got two or three girls who are laying on the floor. It's a pain. They just can't figure out where to lay it. Ugh!

I'm worried about egg eathing not to mention the ones who lay it in the run and it gets dirty. It's so wet here. I really need to buy more straw. I have hay but am afraid it might encourage them to lay them on the floor even more.

LOVE ducks. Besides 70 ish chickens we have Pekins. Incredible simply delish eggs that are huge. And they are so easy. No pecking, fighting. Fun to watch too. Need more female ducks. Egg layers tho. Thinking Indian Runners. I may hatch a few Pekin eggs next time I load the bator, just to have some ducks to live with chickens. Maybe I just need 2 or 3 bators...
The only thing I don't like about ducks is how they dirty the water. Chickens are decent to change every other day, ducks every day. Runners are funny! I have 3 bators.

That's great picture. We have a hen that will lay eggs in the pole barn. Usually under something that moves and then the eggs get smooshed.

Saturday will be fine. I will let you know what hatches then you can decide what you want. Blue eggs would be AWESOME! 3 incubators-we'll find room.

I'd be happy to provide someone with NN hatching eggs IF I could figure out for sure which ones they were. :p I have eight NN girls, but they are in with 13 others so it's all a tossup as to who laid what. I just set a few each time and hope a NN pops out. Got three NN out of four eggs on my V-day hatch! :)
