Hey Aria! As Cass said, you can keep more than one breed. I have silkies in one coop and 8 large fowl hens in another coop. I have one silkie roo and he is with the little girls. He doesnt even try and make a move on the big girls. They pretty much ignore the little ones anyways when they are all out freeranging. I am getting more of each in the spring. Since I will probably end up with a big rooster, I will be fencing an area for the silkies that will let them freerange without harrassment from him. Chickens are a learning process and it seems like there is always another breed or type that I want! Enjoy your silkies and good luck with your hatching. I will be test hatching some of my silkie eggs in a couple of months.
