There is a large flea market in New Lebanon every Sunday. Don't know how doable it would be for you distance wise, but if you need more info, let me know and I can try and find a contact person for you.

GRRRRR....what are the "laws" regarding shooting OWLS? Specfically Great Horned Owls. Cuz I just lost another Sumantra to a night predator that took the entire body with it, without trace of blood, just a few feathers left on the roosting surface. I am assuming it is a winged predator, cuz the food on the ground just below the roosting area is undisturbed. It wasn't even all that dark. I was waiting a few more minutes so I could sneak up on the flock of them and move them indoors to their coop. When I went down they were ALL GONE. I found ONE on a lower roost and stuck her in the regular coop. I looked and looked for the others, but they are no where to be seen. Which boads well for them if they survived.....which I hope they did (well except the one who's feathers are all over the place)

Tomorrow I chase their little butts all over til I catch them in the daylight and put them in the coop. So much for outdoor chickens. My heart can't take the losses.

sorry Cass. I have done the 3 in the morning, collect the chickens thing a few times after a coon scared them out of a tree waking me. in the dark they will stay where they land. You can walk right up on them. And you will have to to see them. I've seen them fly (this is adult Sumatra's mind you) as far as 70 feet from the tree they were scared from. If you look, if you can tonight that is try walking in gradually larger circles scanning he area to see if you see any. Then shine the light right in their face, and pick them up from behind quickly so they don't run off. Then stick them in the coop. They really need to be in there with a great horned owl around.
I had a Great horned owl once take my old english bantam rooster. Again about 3am. Seems to be when the predators hunt around here. We built a scare crow and I left talk radio on in my workshop 24 hours a day, loud enough to hear outside. Never had an owl attack again. It must have moved on.
Good luck and I hope your birds are ok
