Okay, so I walked up on my 14 wk old rooster trying to mate with my 5 month old Partridge silkie hen....I said "dude, seriously?" This hen normally treats him like a little punk because she's the head honcho...I just rolled my eyes and walked off just disgusted.

We have a Sunday flea market here in Syracuse. Just google the "Regional Market" We get people from all over the state.

GRRRRR....what are the "laws" regarding shooting OWLS? Specfically Great Horned Owls. Cuz I just lost another Sumantra to a night predator that took the entire body with it, without trace of blood, just a few feathers left on the roosting surface. I am assuming it is a winged predator, cuz the food on the ground just below the roosting area is undisturbed. It wasn't even all that dark. I was waiting a few more minutes so I could sneak up on the flock of them and move them indoors to their coop. When I went down they were ALL GONE. I found ONE on a lower roost and stuck her in the regular coop. I looked and looked for the others, but they are no where to be seen. Which boads well for them if they survived.....which I hope they did (well except the one who's feathers are all over the place)

Tomorrow I chase their little butts all over til I catch them in the daylight and put them in the coop. So much for outdoor chickens. My heart can't take the losses.

Cass, we have had a barred owl around here, checking out the coops at 3:30 AM. My husband insisted that the "Who! who! who cooks for you!" distinctive hoot was a coyote. I was doubtful because the hooting wasn't coming from the ground.When I saw the owl flying overhead he still insisted that it was a coyote I was hearing. A quick google search of owl hoots confirmed my thoughts of it being an owl and not a coyote.
I am so sorry for your losses. I hope you are able to recover the rest of your sumatras.
