NY chicken lover!!!!

OK People...
For those who said my silkie hen was a Roo - the one with a comb and wattles wait till you hear this one. I was outside doing some yard work today and I notice him walking up to coop. He goes inside, all alone, gets nice and comfy in a nest box and just sits there. And sits and sits and sits. The whole time I'm thinking what on earth is this little guy doing?!?!? about 30 mins later, he comes out clucking away, the loudest I've ever heard him. So I'm thinking ok, maybe he's trying to attract one of the hens?!? The others come over, they walk away from the coop, I finally decide to go check out this box and wouldn't you beleive it! There was a freakin egg in there! LOL

Thankfully, my dh has Morehen's disease, too! I'll mention I need another coop for another flock and I get "Okay". Gotta love him! He likes to build.

My goats did just fine in their new shed last night. No visitors. I even accidentally left an egg on the step from a late layer and it was still there this morning. I was SURE I'd be teaching a raccoon where to go for eggs. Phew!

Just wait til I get around to designing my four by four coop. Then folks will be buying lots of plywood. I'm working on a design that used three sheets of plywood. I just need to put it on paper. Many folks have silkies and they don't need quite so much room. I've got it in my head but just like my office there's all this other junk in there and it's takes time to find anything.

Right now I'm doing other things. As usual to many things.

I have to ask. I had a guy come and give me a deposit for a pair of birds but he has yet to come and get them. I've called him and he assured me he still wanted them but that was over a week ago. I need to move these birds. I called him yesterday but he has not returned my calls nor my e-mails. What would you do?

I need to get things situated for the winter. Also any ideas how soon can I take a hen away from her chicks? One I need the eggs and two I've got to many broodies as it is. Right now I have two hens brooding three chicks and one brooding eight. AND three on eggs.

Well count your blessing. A silky's crowing is like the mercy of the Lord, It never ends.

That's one of the reasons I got rid of mine. (the silky rooster, not the Lord).

Had that happen a while back. Lady dropped off money and a crate and I could not get a hold of her to come get the chickens. Finally did get a hold of her, but had already contacted another person who wanted them as backup. If she didn't show was just going to email her and tell her that past such and such date birds would go to someone else and I'd return her money.

Had a neighbor who I offered chicks to at $2 each and he asked me in about 4 months if I still had them for him - LOL, umm no.. and if I did, they would not be $2.

I try to take mom from chicks when she no longer wants them, but that's not always possible. About 5 weeks or so.

My Polish cockerels were like that. Compared to them yelling their heads off all day, Captain Morgan is like a monk who has taken a vow of silence.
