NY chicken lover!!!!

My girls don't play any gaming systems, but we do have some shape and numbers games on our nooks. I can't handle much violence. I remember having game night with my family growing up. We played Sorry, Aggravation, Trouble, Chute & Ladders, Candyland, and Yahtzee.

Tab ~ he sure does sound like a fighter, ascites is rough, usually a sign that the liver is overworked. my ex had liver cancer, suffered fluid buildup a lot, and when not on pharmaceuticals, would use herbs known for blood cleansing and liver/kidney boosting. they worked pretty well and kept him in remission for years longer than the docs thought. but, as a follower of naturopathy... I don't recommend mixing herbs with prescribed meds... the other issue with herbs, is that they aren't regulated by the FDA, and doses can vary wildly... his good natured ways, humor, strength of family and friends, and all the prayers coming his way from everyone, those he knows and those he has never met... can create within him an immeasurable strength that drives him to survive as best he can, for as long as he can. it's all about the quality of days. he has that, bc he has you and all the rest of the family on his side. when he gets out, he needs at least one full day with you and the girls and anyone else who wants to tag along, where the "C" is left behind, who cares what y'all do... walk the beach, go bowling... eat like piggies and laugh like children!

S'Cold on the mountaintop these days... have lots of ice on the waterers every day. I just flip the bucket or bowl over fast, try to get an ice bucket to come out... have been successful once so far. got a perfect shape, held the water nicely, but then I dumped it and brought the ice to the front porch, and put a candle in it. it looked really nice and lasted for 4 days before melting. once winter sets in, I should get lots of nice ice buckets to decorate with, i'll take pics of the next one.
the gang has given up the coop for roosting it seems. they were all in the enclosure together again last night... except for, you guessed it... Violet, same chicken, in the same nest box... I moved her to the roost, then had to look for a full minute for banty Peach. she was snug and warm between the other RIR, Rose and Royce, my oldest and largest roo. Rose had her wing over her, that's why I couldn't see her right away... they are really acting like one flock now. I feel quite relaxed about the whole "adding new chickens to the flock" thing. the portable run served nicely as living space for the new birds and the rest was down to time.

GD was playing one on the computer to make thanksgiving dinner. From Scratch. Kill and gut and pluck the turkey blood and all. DIL got on and deleted it I think.

There was also egg cracking with eggs that had blood in them.

All plans of house cleaning have been cancelled due to stomach bug. Little girl had it last Thursday, hubby this Thursday and now me today. Hooray, just what I wanted. Knew something was wrong when hubby made eggs over easy this morning and felt ill just looking at them. I'm ok, as long as i stay laying on the couch and don't eat or drink anything. Tossed a couple pedialyte pops in the freezer for 'dinner'.

rancher, we play dominoes ~ we love the newest version, more than a few years old now... called Mexican Train. never gets boring... we also play backgammon, gin rummy, and all the old board games like Stratego, Battleship, Life, Monopoly...the closet is stacked with them, and jigsaw puzzles... love those too! the only computer games are text twist (spelling game) and those annoying, yet family friendly, facebook games like CafeWorld, and FarmVille... no video system here, altho' we almost got one when Rock Band came out, that's a really kewl game, but we never did...

I have got to learn to play Dominos. I also like Battleship. Not a big fan of Monopoly though. Bought a set of large checkers at Cracker Barrel for my GD and her dad to play.

At thanksgiving we have a large group of folks and play Bingo afterwards. We like to give prizes of "regifted" things. You know party favors from showers and free stuff you get. Just little junky dollar store things. Then we laugh like crazy.

630 am. 21 degrees. low rubber boots, purple nighty and blue winter jacket. water bucket in one hand, scratch bucket in the other. Hair all wild. Its a wonder the chickens dont die of fright when they see me coming to let them out. Sometimes I scare myself! So, butt checks reveal all is clear and all the girls are perkier and much more active this morning. Of course, I was viewed suspiciously by them when I opened the door to open the pop door. They havent forgotten the whole fish net catching thing from yesterday. I am being avoided until deemed safe I guess. No signs of any mites anywhere. I love chemical warfare.

Heard a coyote in the back yard last night. It was gone before I got to the window to red light it. Guess I will be keeping the pistol handy while I am freeranging the cheeps today.

Rancher--I think you would like dominoes. Its a fun game. I always had lots of puzzles and board games for my kids and we would play every day. Cards too. When I was growing up we had lots of cards because we would play crazy eights all the time and they would get all bent and worn out. It was always a very loud and boisterous game too!

baking day today.

Have to go out and do my chicken chores then turn into my artist persona. The Strathmore Artisans are having a show in Syracuse starting at noon. It is really fun for me, as it's held in my old neighborhood and I get to see tons of people from the old days. The down side is Ive spent tons of time working on small pieces--like humming birds--which don't take up much space on a display...

I'll be back to chicken mom tomorrow.

Oh, on the subject of games, there is company in Canada that makes cooperative games that are really fun. The players compete together against the game. It is really nice and I used them a lot at school. My favorite was called Max. Max is a cat, and there are three little animals, the game is to get the three little animals to safety before Max gets them. It sounds kind of simplistic, but I brought it to ski patrol on a rainy nasty night, and my macho fellow patrollers and I played it all evening, with much cooperative planning. In the game all the pieces move by rolls of the dice, chance determines whether Max moves or the animals, and how much.

Max might be just the kind of game you and your GD would enjoy, Rancher. I wish I could remember the name of the company. It's something like Family Learning Time but I know that not it.
