Tab ~ he sure does sound like a fighter, ascites is rough, usually a sign that the liver is overworked. my ex had liver cancer, suffered fluid buildup a lot, and when not on pharmaceuticals, would use herbs known for blood cleansing and liver/kidney boosting. they worked pretty well and kept him in remission for years longer than the docs thought. but, as a follower of naturopathy... I don't recommend mixing herbs with prescribed meds... the other issue with herbs, is that they aren't regulated by the FDA, and doses can vary wildly... his good natured ways, humor, strength of family and friends, and all the prayers coming his way from everyone, those he knows and those he has never met... can create within him an immeasurable strength that drives him to survive as best he can, for as long as he can. it's all about the quality of days. he has that, bc he has you and all the rest of the family on his side. when he gets out, he needs at least one full day with you and the girls and anyone else who wants to tag along, where the "C" is left behind, who cares what y'all do... walk the beach, go bowling... eat like piggies and laugh like children!
S'Cold on the mountaintop these days... have lots of ice on the waterers every day. I just flip the bucket or bowl over fast, try to get an ice bucket to come out... have been successful once so far. got a perfect shape, held the water nicely, but then I dumped it and brought the ice to the front porch, and put a candle in it. it looked really nice and lasted for 4 days before melting. once winter sets in, I should get lots of nice ice buckets to decorate with, i'll take pics of the next one.
the gang has given up the coop for roosting it seems. they were all in the enclosure together again last night... except for, you guessed it... Violet, same chicken, in the same nest box... I moved her to the roost, then had to look for a full minute for banty Peach. she was snug and warm between the other RIR, Rose and Royce, my oldest and largest roo. Rose had her wing over her, that's why I couldn't see her right away... they are really acting like one flock now. I feel quite relaxed about the whole "adding new chickens to the flock" thing. the portable run served nicely as living space for the new birds and the rest was down to time.
