O.K. No more helping "friends"

I hate to say it, but if you don't help him and his current chickens die, he could get fed up and quit with chickens, therby saving many more chickens from falling into his hands. It might be better to sacrafice the ones he has, or after it gets to a certain point to call animal control on him. But yes, I would stay away. all it will bring is an empty wallet, broken heart, and more stress.

You know, there comes a time and place when you have to stop and take a step back - and butt heck out! Let him fall flat on his face.

He's already blamed you for the failure of the hatching/incubator. My guess is that if you are involved in anyway, he will continue to blame you for all the failures. Yes, some birds may suffer some may die - document- I admire your dedication to the birds... but don't interfer anymore. (though my guess is he'll blame you cause you didn't help him!)

If he has no power, how does he plan to water all those birds?

If you stay out of it, he may fail much faster - problem solved.

Also, are there any regulations where you are, about raising livestock/eggs for sale? Here, you can only have a certain number of birds and can sell only a certain number of eggs or certain $ amount, before you have to have your facilities inspected and have tax ids etc. See if it applies in his situation wait till he gets established - then report him.

If you keep helping "for the hens" it will allow him to keep keeping them and keep hurting them. If a few have to die to save a few thousand, so be it. Sad, but true. maybe he can swicth to bean farming.

That's extremely annoying, but I agree with the others, it's sometimes better to back off and let his *ahem* 'business' fail faster than if you were 'helping' the birds stay alive, which I totally understand. I'm sorry for all the work you put into the chick hatching and he was a complete jerk about it

some people are just jerks and should not be allowed have animals.
agreeing with those folks who say don't help him... with his attitude, his buisness WILL fail, and soon enough.
just watch for his ad on craigslist 6 months from now when he goes to sell off what's left of his chickens, and maybe help them find homes.

I tell ya, tossing the chick to the pig woulda been it for me... next thing he'd have been looking for his head somewhere out in the street where I'd punted it.

that kind of calous behavior? nope, all done. not every chick lives, and pigs have to eat, but that has a level of cold that I find disturbing.

edited because BYC found my language a little strong...

When I read your post, I literally gasped out loud in shock and horror!! Fed it to the pig???

This guy has no business raising chickens, and sounds like the lowest of the lowest scum. ( Sorry, but that's just how I feel ). I'm so sorry you went through this excruciating ordeal, and I hope you take it as a lesson and offer him no more favors.

I think everyone on here should chime in on this situation, and when he asks you for help again, just direct him to this thread...then maybe he'll understand the error of his ways...or not...

But still, I would not be involved with this fellow ever again if I were you.

The next time that guy proposes a project, just wish him luck and tell him to let you know how if turns out. People cannot take advantage of you without your permission.

Put a lot of distance between you and that loser.

The guy is bad news and by all means next time just say "I really do not know what to tell you" and then repeat it to him because he most likely will not get the hint. I have a word for this guy but I would have to PM it.

I am sorry, sumi. I got so irritated reading about your so-called "friend" that I had to enjoy some levity. But, as usual, the advice I've read here seems sound. Good luck!
