Milk probably isn't the best thing to add. Chickens don't produce lactase, the enzyme that breaks down lactose, a sugar in the milk. Undigested lactose ferments in the bowel since the bactera there have a free for all, and it can cause diarrhea. Instead, use yogurt or kefir (which can be made at room temperature in a jar! Very easy to make and kefir grains live and grow, never going bad or dying). The good bacteria in those products (and some yeast in kefir) digest the lactose in the milk, turning it into lactic acid. That is why plain yogurt is so nice and tangy, and can be eaten by those who are lactose intolerant without having problems.

Yes you can do that but they'd probably like it better either room temp or popped in the microwave for a couple minutes. I mix mine with yogurt or buttermilk and they will come running when they see the flat black pans in my hands! Also have added olive oil from time to time in winter to make sure everything moves through when they aren't getting as much greenery as spring, summer.
