Oh please ... any student old enough to truly care can just look it up on the internet anyway.. They aren't being denied anything.

There's a bigger picture here .. a much bigger picture.

Do a little study on Marxism .. talk to some people who came to this country to get AWAY from a socialist government ..

Let me stop talking now .. as I'm having a hard time finding nice things to say ...

Noon on a school day? Isn't that lunch time? Good luck trying to keep hundreds of hungry students away from lunch so they can watch the president talk.

for starters I lived in HI. I have a bango number from the sugar mill i worked in. I know you think Hi. is part of our country and it is. But go live there and live you will find out what it is to live on the other side of the coin .It is a completely different culture than the mainland. You have to go there to see. By the way I think I have heard him say in one of his speaches that he remembered hearing the calls to prayer as a boy growing up in Indonesia, check on it.

So because he comes from a different culture, which is still a part of American culture, he's dangerous?

I live in California and even I hear the call to prayer from our local temple sometimes. What in the world does that have to do with anything?

I think my point is he grew up in a foriegn culture " give me a child
under 8 and he is mine forever" And his Ideals are foriegn to american standards.

Everything should be in the proper place and time. I will say if he was addressing only academic issues I might be for it, but this as stated already could be done in the presence of parents. This smell s of improper influence without a parent their for guidance.

The speech should have been submitted by to the school boards and then submitted to parents for approval. But to be honest if that is done why not just do it prime time? Why does he want to shut parents out? Would anybody be OK with Coca Cola providing free soft drinks to children in class?

Working in a school, I'm going to take a guess:

Not every family has a television at home, but nearly every classroom has one with basic local channel access. If you do it prime time, students who want to see it would miss out.

Having it done in the classroom leaves space for discussion. There are classroom activities suggested, and your child's teacher is there to help guide conversation afterwards. If you don't trust your child's teacher to be reasonable and impartial, you may want to look into homeschooling your child.

The reason why it wasn't submitted for approval? Look at this thread. The majority of responses are AGAINST this speech. Not because it contains anything bad, not because it isn't a good use of classroom time, but because it's Obama. That's the long and the short of it and everyone here knows it. It it was Bush, there wouldn't be such an uproar. If it were Clinton? There wouldn't be such an uproar. But it's Obama, and there is, simply because it's Obama.

No, I think it was stated that he grew up in HI when clearly by his own admission, he grew up and was educated in Indonesia .. .. and Lutz is right, HI is a little different than the mainland ... but still part of the USA.
