I have a white leghorn that has always sat in the nesting box for about an hour, layed an egg everyday since August 30th until December 20th, the recent start of the recent endless cold snap (lows in between 8-16, highs 18-25). She resumed the next day and every day since, but now is in the nesting box for at least 2 hours, and every egg is abnormally shaped. I have notice no other odd behaviors, breathing and comb look fine. She is a thin bird, thinner that my other high productive WL. I have been amping up their protein since the end of November, hoping to fatten her up a bit. My question is, do you think she's laying oddly shaped because she's cold, or it is something more?

Hmmm, weird. My oblong eggs always had 2 yolks, but that was also in summer. Let's see what others say.
My Double yokers were always super large, beyond jumbos. My first egg every was a double, that must've hurt. My ISA Browns gave about 25 doubles and my Leghorns about 5 before they settled into maturity.

My chickens always laid large eggs from day 1, but for me, the double yolkers were always very long.

Some chickens tend to lay longer eggs, some lay rounder ones, some lay the traditional "egg shape." They all taste the same once you cook them!
lol, I know, but they changed and all warped since cold spell. I'm just curious if it's the fact she's cold and tense. She's my best friend now, and wants me to pick her up, I guess to keep warm. She was never like that before.

I guess she could be tight buttin the egg because she's cold but I'm betting it's her laying machinery getting back in tune. You did say she started and stopped, that pretty much guarentees wonky eggs for a little while. :)

That's what I was thinking. Hopefully the winter gets a bit milder. At least I have a new best friend.
