This is my BLRW hen bringing home a surprised 15 babies from the neighbors barn about 18 days ago. Well now, these little fuzz balls are getting big and she can no longer fit them all under her at night. So she sit there with her wings nearly spread to full flight mode and looks mighty uncomfortable. How long will the little fuzzers try to stay under her?

I have never had a broody with this many chicks.

I had an OEGB hen with 18 chicks once, they couldn't fit under more than the first 2 weeks if that. They'll continue to try and get under her but as long as she has a 'tight' nest they won't need it...there are plenty of warm bodies to keep everyone in the vicinity nice and snuggly

IF you took a couple away from her and put them in a brooder, i bet she wouldn't miss a few. They might miss her for a little while but they will calm down im sure.
