OCTOBER HATCH-A-LONG!!! 2015

400

And daughter came home and grabbed 2 dry chicks before I could tell her not to open the bator so they are in the brooder now but man are they sweet!

I just candled one egg out of the 8 that my broody girls are sitting on.... And I see life!! It looks just like it should at 7 days. I'm so happy to see that as it's my first time hatching with a broody Silkie. Whooo-hooo!!!

The malpositioned one is out!

Yay! Congrats

Sorry haven't posted in this thread before these guys hatched on the 5th so yeah.So got I some good news and some bad again one of the goslings died don't no how but it was fine the day before then went to check on them that night and he was dead in the nest box so yeah down no how couldn't feel any breaks so could've just been a freak accident. Anyway no more bad news the little gosling that had that swollen foot is fine now he is strong and walking so all good. Another thing is that one of my friends want a pair of geese for next year so I am giving the radar and bear so then I will have clare flapper and Mr Hiss so yeah will be able to keep some of the goslings from this years hatch yayaayyay so happy but sad at the same time can watch them grow all over again so yeah but also sad that I have to get rid of radar because he is far to aggressive towards my chickens and Hiss doesn't care as long as they don't get near the goslings he is in a good mood. So will keep updated but here are some pics of the older gosling with the younger goslings in the backyard with the geese. But you can tell the difference between a 2 week old gosling and 3 day old

So on day 9 swell for my little silver lace wyandotte hen and have candled all of the eggs yay candled for the first time and for what I can see all are alive all were moving inside of the eggs and lot of veins so excited she is going to be such a good mum. But I am hoping for another broody to hurry up because I have 8 orpington eggs and 4 plymouth eggs that I need to hatch so fingers cross but maggie my older sussex silkie mix is showing signs as she was in the nest box all day yesterday and same for the day before so fingers crossed I guess

Those are beautiful pictures! I'm sorry about the one you lost but I'm glad the one with the swollen foot is doing better. What breed of goose are they?

4 hatched, 4 zipping and 3 with nothing visible happening. When the zippers hatch and dry out later should I move the chicks to the brooder and candle the last 3 for signs of movement? I won't open while there are pippers/zippers in case I shrink wrap them and I know the chicks are fine in there for a few days. Leave them all alone another 24 hours? Its day 22 and the first chick hatched 20 hours ago.. I'm loving all the chirping coming from the bator

Don't worry, I open up the bator to chicks out all the time and the other eggs are okay. Just make sure you do it fast, don't hold the incubator open.

Yay for your broody silkie!

okay.... so who are my parents? Did a Orust get mixed up with the lone 19 week old Silver Laced wyodette and she in turn went against all odds and laid her egg in the Well summers coop nesting box? Definitely looks like a silver laced wyodette! (one other wildcard is i have a siclican buttercup same age as the silverlaced wyodette, but the egg was Big and a light brown in which this cutie hatched from. Also the legs have a dark shading on the scales much like i see with Orust chicks.

the only males i have is a Orust (mottled genes) or a Welsummer.

I'm confused! ha. here i thought my brown egg would hatch a welsummer. a Nice and brown and beautiful sex linked welsummer... ha. always surprizes espcially since I keep my roo's seperate. The boys got out and they co-mingled all the girls for a couple hours before dusk on the 16th of sept....I normally dont let them. it was a accident by another person.

I had no idea this was not going to be a welsummer. I had no idea the silver laced wyodette was laying?! could it be true? lol jokes on me.

It is so wonderful to read back and see the news about the mispositioned ones hatching out! yes! always good to know.

So as of this morning all chicks are hatched expect one egg. I candled it and still see a huge airsac but no movement or chick in that airsac. Is this indicative of a 'quitter'?
