October Hatch-A-Long 2017

Great news on all the viability!

Sounds like a misplaced / detached aircell.

I was under the assumption those wouldn't hatch, but I just followed a post on here where someone hatched out some eggs with detached aircells.

I think it'll still have a chance to hatch, but you may have to position it a certain way. What direction are your eggs lying right now, side, big end up?

Just candled mine. Two clears out of 10. But one viable one has it's aircell on the side. What's up with that?

That’s really odd! I’ve never personally seen that before. I’ve seen some pretty crazy air cells from shipping, but never one that was completely sideways. And if yours weren’t shipped, I’d probably just consider it a fluke thing.

Let us know how it fares on hatch day!

Yes, big end is up. I have had all my eggs in an auto turner since they were laid. I hope I didn't drop it or something... I don't remember doing anything like that. Not with a special egg!

I hope it does hatch! That silly hen was the one I really wanted eggs from, and she went broody that week. Only got two eggs from her. One normal, one lopsided, but both viable...

I hope so too! I will be interested to follow your progress with that egg in case I encounter a similar situation in the future. :fl it hatches out just fine!

I forgot I have had a broody hen in the yard for a long time now. I finally decided to check on her these past couple days. She had 4 eggs under her, 3 were not fertile (I can believe it, she hasn't been exposed that much) but the last one is developing! Judging by the size of the airsack, she should be hatching in the next 1-2 days. I was not too terribly interested in the chicks, that's why I forgot she was broody. She is and OEGB, and the dad is either a Welsummer, or a SLP. The Wesummer is still really young, like 5-6 months, the Polish is 18 months. I already hatched some Polish/OEGB chicks out of this hen earlier this year. That's probably what this chick is.

My 1st candling of this hatch went well.

Had a 1 quitter and a couple non-fertile. All together I pulled 6 out of the 36 that I candled. Not great but not bad for molting season.

I'll check the 10 staggered eggs Wednesday.

All the developing ones look like this or better :D

I saw lots of little chicken shrimps swimming in their shells :D

Hope everyone is doing well!
