I don't see that the membrane is broken, in fact last night and this morning the cracks were a little expanded from the chicks movement and I saw what appeared to be white intact membrane underneath. I'll rub some coconut oil over it this evening.

We will see how it goes!

Can you see if it ruptured the outer or inner membrane? If the membrane is exposed I’d rub a little Vaseline on it to keep it moist. :fl it does alright!

Still no word on my shipped eggs. They were supposed to ship this week, but it’s still only Wednesday. I’d really hoped to have them sooner, but that’s not what I agreed to when I purchased them.

On the other hand, I chaperoned my son’s fall field trip to an apple orchard today and guess what I came home with . . . mystery eggs! They were sitting on the counter while I was purchasing apple products and couldn’t say no, what with an incubator ready and waiting. I verified they were fertilized but otherwise know nothing about them. Yay, surprises! I will hold off until Saturday, I think, to put them in the incubator, in the hopes my shipped dozen show up, too.

I know how you feel! I hate waiting for stuff to arrive. I bought a new incubator and it should've arrived Monday and it's still not here  However, mystery eggs are exciting!!! I got a dozen backyard breed eggs (since mine didn't develop) and set them yesterday. Woohoo! That little egg is very intriguing. Hopefully someone has some knowledge about it.

Oh, a question. I really don’t know anything about what laid these eggs that can’t be deduced from the eggs themselves. That little one . . . small egg? Banty? Polish? Thoughts?

Definitely looks like a bantam sized egg, beyond that though I couldn’t say. Will be a fun surprise to see what hatches out of it!

Yay for new eggs! :woot
Hopefully that new incubator arrives soon. :fl

My SBEL eggs arrived today, and they're not a happy lot. Lots of detached and giggly air cells. Put those 8 in my 1588 upright with no turner and we'll see how they've fared in a couple of days. Also threw in some Trader Joe's eggs, but they're rather aged, so not much hope there, either. I have 6 welsummer eggs, 2 EE eggs and 3 welsummer cross eggs (we don't know if australorp or delaware.) Those eggs are relatively fresh from a friend. Still waiting on the Cuckoo Bluebars to arrive, hopefully Friday or Saturday. Have an additional incubator waiting for them. Staggered hatch, but it'll only be a few days difference in the age of any resultant chicks.

One of my best layers was from a farmers market egg. It was the only one that hatched out of a dozen, and I figured they were just too old and cold. But the egg that hatched was a white EE, an Ameraucana x RR. She's white with faint red cast on her wings and lays a large army green egg just about every day. Those farmers market eggs can be surprising!
