October Hatch-A-Long 2017

So much hope! These are the fresh eggs and a few TJ's thrown in. The "hospital" bator has all white eggs.

My friend Rachel, who has supplied the Welsummer and Welsummer-cross eggs, lives two streets over. She FB'd me last night at 10:00 that her hen laid another egg and did I want to incubate it? The eggs got set at 8:00 pm, but I went over and did a drive-by egg pickup so all the chicks would have the same hatch day. Neighbors probably thought there was some sort of illicit late-night hand-to-hand deal going on. "Officer, it's an egg. Honest!"

Good point - maybe I can get them to sponsor us? Ha ha!
But in truth we already owned the little one - then caught the hatching bug - so we wanted something bigger. We bought a slightly damaged 2nd hand octagon & a spares or repairs donor & in a moment of excellent home education we got both running!!! Yay! Lucky us!
However we've lost chicks in the past to hatching football so we just filled one octagon & kept the others for lockdown - I'll let you all know how it goes. We have 6 in each octagon and the five dodgies are in the mini.

No pipping yet. Looks like this batch is going to be painfully on time.

The first few hatches I had a few early birds and it spoiled me.

I hope they are pipping by tomorrow and not running late.
