October Hatch-a-long 2022🎃🐣🍁

Pics
Here’s my crew!! First time hatching shipped eggs. There were 26 to start. Four ended up yolkers. One was a quitter. I hatched out 17 Bantam Cochins with four still in the incubator (though no pips, so maybe have died.) I’ll keep them in a few more days just in case. 😊❤️🐓

They're so cute! I hear such horror stories about shipped egg hatching rates, 17 out of 26 seems wonderful. Congrats!

16 eggs have been candled and put into lockdown. Their accidental chilling doesn't seem to have hurt them any.

The one that I tagged on the last candling was indeed a quitter.

I'll be very surprised if egg #1 hatches. I wish I had a means of taking a photo because it just looks wrong. It's got good veins, but isn't full enough and just doesn't look like a chick.

Egg #24 is also worrisome. The chick is too small inside it's egg. It moved -- not the swishy movement of degrading contents when you turn the egg. Actual movement while I held the egg still. Unlike egg #1 it *looks* like a chick, but it looks several days behind, maybe?

Might be worth letting this last one (#24) stay in until DAY 25 unless you stop seeing any movement before then. It does happen that a late bloomer pops out several days after the rest.🤞

Per @Gammas Bearded Babies request, embroidery card cages to keep eggs separate. Photos from a previous hatch were I had Silkies and second gen Polkies incubating together. They look identical at hatch.
The cards can easily be cut down to size. I also use them if there is a little one that needs to be kept away from more rambunctious hatch mates.😊View attachment 3282573
Thank you so much for this! I will definitely have to do this with my many colors...if they make it that far.😔
