Anyone ever keep broody and chicks in a dog crate for a couple days in coop? (Not wire kennel but plastic crate). All I have on hand, wanted to move mama and chicks once they started hatching but don't need any helpers either, lol. Would be confined for 2-3 days and then would take off the door and let her nest there.

I have seen people use just the top part with no door for broodiness but wanted to make sure they got enough air circulation too. Will be right by the pop up door.

Or I can just move her to that crate no door closed. Or just move her to the floor. Or just let her be. Haha only my 2nd broody

Three weeks apart and mama taking care of them all together ; ) FALL hatch we have 8 mostly silky mixes the two pumpkin buffs are full silky of course my daughter with sprinkles

Not planning to keep any from Layla‘s hatch but then again, you never know…

They r are so beautiful! And that buff "boy" is darling!
The porcelain has alot of dark on its back...will be interesting to see it grow out for sure!

Yall I just realized my incubator wasn't turning eggs! The day never got changed when I moved em to other incubator cause of staggered hatch! It was probably 10 to 12 hours of no turning..yall think they'll be ok!?!!
They are on Day 14.
I cannot believe I forgot to fix that!!!

That's not significantly worse than someone hand-turning and either sleeping through the night or going to work with a commute.

I have 2 broodies hatching 2 chicks each very soon!! Tomorrow or Monday I think! They are first time mummas so hopefully will do ok.

I hope it wasn't any longer than that...I'm pretty sure I heard it turn last night and it said it was on day 2 so that would be bout right? It's been a rough week with catching critters, my boy getting hurt, cochins hatching and granbabies and DH being gone! Thank God each day is new with His mercy!

Agree, they should be fine.
