October Hatch-A-Long

Day 14... I managed to get an egg from under my broody duck to candle it and it looks good!!!

I am relieved now and hopeful she may get one or two ducklings. They have been in her nest for a few days and I was most worried about the transfer since I was incubating them upright due to detached air cells until the power went out. The eggs might have done better under her from the start but I'll try that next Spring with hopefully local eggs. So happy thinking she will finally have a baby or two!!

It's day 16 for my hen today.... I'm thinking of candling one last time as I think there is one non fertile egg under her. Also, does "lockdown" apply to broody hens hatching or just the incubators?

Well, it's official! I can't stop getting eggs!
Hatched out my first batch, ever, in last week of July!
I have a batch cooking now...1 week left!
I have a batch going in another bator tonight!
(And) I have a batch coming via USPS next week!
Hope my 'bators hold up under heavy duty use!?
Can we start a HAA! group (Hatching Addiction Anonymous) Please!
I need help. LOL!

She started off with 6, 2 weren't fertilized and one is still unknown but probably not fertile either... Leaving just 3. I'm beyond excited I can see how hatching would become addictive and I haven't even got to the cute fluffy babies yet!

Good luck!

I am just a couple days behind you but have to wait a whole extra week for ducklings!

Day 8 here... Candled and removed 3 EE eggs that had developed blood rings and 3 BO eggs that either had a blood ring or were clear...

Going into week 2 with 18 EE eggs (all sold) and 10 BO eggs (mine) Not a bad set...

Hubby tweaked my egg turner and I am using it for the first time since early spring... I have to keep reminding myself to go check the temp lol... Good thing my temps have been pretty steady, have had a few drops to 100 but I would rather have the drop than the spike

Running steady at 101.8- 102.6 and room humidity at 46%

Starting my first grade class' Chick Project on Monday! DMRippy's eggs should arrive today. I'll let them set and get them in the Brinsea Advance 20 incubator on Monday. I would normally do this project in the spring, but Donors Choose funded all of the (new) equipment, and I have to have it completed within 5 months... so off we go! The hovabator incubator was great with a smaller class, but with a class of 36 I need to maximize automation AND the Ovascope should also give us the best chance to see movement when we candle, plus minimize disturbance to the eggs.

The Little Farm, a fantastic teaching farm in Miami, will take our chickies once they're big enough to live on a farm. I'm so excited!!
