October Hatch-A-Long

Well, back to dry incubating for me... what a sad hatch so far! I lost that first baby last night right after I saw it breathing.

Two more were dead this morning.

My pipper is doing well and nearly out and my one Serama egg is pipped and looking good. My Silkies might make it. Almost everyone was terribly malpositioned... darn humidity. I am ever hoping to figure out just the right conditions, but alas, they elude me. Pretty bummed but hope a few make it!

I'm sorry! My last hatch I did 5 assists out of the 15 that made it to lockdown. That is why i opted on dry hatching. Last time out of 30 eggs 15 made it to lockdown 11 hatched 4 were gooey... I hate messing with humidity! This time dry hatch. Didn't add any water till day 18 and out of 10 eggs 9 made it to lockdown and so far I have 3 very noisy bouncy chicks and 2 more piped and its day 21!

Thanks, the only reason I tried a little higher humidity was for these tiny eggs... last hatch humidity was too low for my tiny eggs! Oh well, I guess I just have to assist them no matter what. At least when I dry hatch they are more able to pip. The girls I hatched over the summer should lay in the not too distant future and I can experiment with their eggs. I am sure when I have a few chicks in the brooder I will feel better. The Silkies are not looking too bad...

Once you have a few keeping you preoccupied it'll be all better

Very little progress, I am getting worried about one. If you seasoned duck peepers could help out, it is still peeping, but no zipping and little movement. I'm going to be devastated if one of them doesn't make it. I got them this far, I want to make sure they make it to the end!
