I'm probably too hands on with my hatching but I got my hatch rates to go up significantly with my shipped eggs by adding safety holes, and assisting more if needed. I hope if you do decide to add the safety holes they help! :)
You know, my biggest fear about the safety holes is that, one time i tried it on an egg, and i didnt have gloves on, and that egg legit EXPLODED! SO I have a hugongous fear of safety holes now.

I'm more excited to see how these chicks grow. The size is a key factor for us right now. We are setting up the chicks pen that I'm keeping from this hatch, my Cochin started laying so I think this means I should hatch a few of hers when this hatch is over :jumpy I bet Cochin/BJG crosses would look stunning in my layer flock.
yeah they would, good broodies, and good layers!

I was thinking about selling some chicks in the spring at a chicken swap, but I'm not sure if I want to. I guess it all depends on how these grow out because if they grow out good for meat birds and I take pics of their progress from beginning to end, it could be pretty good for us to sell them.

Oof, I dont almost throw up easily, but that one almost made me throw up!
My Mom cracked open an egg from the grocery store to bake a cake one time and there was a deformed chick inside :sick I don't think she ate eggs for years after that.

I'm actually going to bring them a roasting chicken fully cleaned for them to cook for family dinner. She asked for no spare parts :gigshe said the same about the Thanksgiving turkeys we are raising in the spring

:sickI candle first before I make a safety hole for this reason. I've read that before, no thanks!

Making leaf piles for the new chicks I'm keeping, I have to wait to put them in here until they can't escape out of the chain link holes.

The other leaves I have, I'm using as bedding for my meat tractors.
