I was cleaning out the house and found this under the sink (we save them for random things like water for storms and such). I'm going to try it as a feeder for the chicks. I lost my feeders somehow and wanted to get crafty this morning. I have other feeders if this doesn't work.
It is bottle with holes on both sides, right? They'll go inside..

They can't fit inside, the holes are smaller than a mason jar lid. It's a gallon water jug with the top cut off and flipped inside to make a funnel to put food it. I used a similar feeder for my ducklings because they hated my chick feeders I bought at the store.

There are holes on all 4 sides. Two are lower and 2 are higher, I'm not sure what size my chicks will be.

I'm wondering if anyone in here can answer this for me...

These chicks that I'm hatching are probably going to be all black, so how do I mark the twins so I know that it's them and can separate them when they're old enough. I wanted all of the chicks to grow up together, but remove the twins when they get to be about 12 weeks.

I will put them in my dog kennel when they're 12 weeks with a small coop. The kennel is 30 ft by 40 ft all chain link, it's predator proof unless they go close to the edge but my dogs watch closely. Coop is 4 ft by 6ft. I want to do the see but not touch method with my flock for a few weeks until they all know each other. When they've been in the kennel area for about 8 weeks (adding them at 20 weeks so they'll be POL) I'll put them in the layers run that is 7000 sq ft with the big coop that 8 ft x 8 ft.

If any of this plan sounds stupid, please comment your input

Get colored zip toes, or spray pain't some white ones, and then use the same colored 2 on the twins legs, and different colored ones on the others. !make sure to get very small ones, and trim them after you get them on.
Do they have to be loose?

I have a bunch of zip ties already and I was thinking about that but I didn't know if it would damage their legs. Do I just cut them off when they are 12 weeks?

Amazon sells these elastic leg bands and I was wondering if those would be better...

Those bands would be better, but do you have time for those to come in? Before they get mixed up with everyone else in the brooder? Maybe you could start with the zipties, then order those elastic bands. But if you stick with the zipties, then just snip them off once they start to look really tight.

Ok. My husband was thinking about food dye, but I think the chicks will be black. The twins are Delaware and Jersey giant Cross... A Delaware Giant :idunno

You are 1000% correct. I have learned the hard way since August. Now I have since purchased some longtails and intend on breeding them. They were FAR from cheap.. so no more TSC. Besides, they provided me with all of the breeding stock I could have wanted - we have incubators so now it is just a process of adding bloodlines and selective breeding which I will be doing with the hatchery OEGB self blues, OEGB Wheatons, cochins, silkies, and frizzles. Im also breeding showgirls as soon as my oldest silkie starts paying rent. We already bred Austra-Whites from their april stock. <3 Addicted to the hatch!
Well thank you:hugs there's so much I didn't know before I joined this community. :woot
