The black one with the yellow chest is an Orphington with the lavender gene. I'm thinking about namng him Damien though. A little meanie concidering he's an Orphington. The lavender one thinks he is their guardian. lol He's not mean but he will peck at me when I mess with the others. So cute. He really thinks he can stop me too. lol The others came from my hens and they are so sweet, especially the yellow one. I'm thinking they're all girls but the Orphingtons. I need some girlfriends for the lavender one. I have a Blue Orphington roo that needs some girlfriends too. He's with some RIR hens and apparently he's to large for them to reach his destination, if you know what I mean.

The blue black ones I have are all a little crazy. I was wondering if they were all roos, but 3 are really looking like pullets. They were a lot less "tame" than the gold orps. I hope they grow out of it. I have 25 more bbs orp eggs in my bator, I am hoping those ones will be less high strung. They came from the same source so I am thinking it might be in their genes. It was funny, when they were a week old my husband says, "Why did you get game chickens?" It was like a little cock-fight ring in the brooder. I could imagine what it would be like if they were all boys!!!

I have just hatched 22 cute little Delawares (one was from a double yolk.) I am set to hatch 2 dozen Light Sussex x Coronations on Tuesday. Hee Hee... I know it is a little insane to hatch this late in the year but hey, I'm addicted!

Well, if you have plans to sell eggs in the spring you need to build your flock for it and fall chicks is your last chance. So go for it. I'm trying to get some Orphington girls but I seem to keep ending up with boys. But thats about how it goes for everybody. I did luck out and get a bunch of silkie pullets and it looks like 1 cockerel. I just need 1 white silkie roo, a couple pullets or hens of the blue variety of Orphingtons and a white Polish/Silkie mix roo. I've got quail coming out my ears. They will be going to freezer camp when old enough but for now, i'm up to my ears in quail and my knees in quail poo.

I'm actually hatching the Delawares (or hatched) for a good rooster. I'd LOVE it if they are all boys so I can pick the best one or two and the rest be a nice winter treat. I've never raised quail but have pondered the thought. I hate killing things although I LOVE to eat them. I don't know if I am up to the task of killing ALL THOSE QUAIL. I
