My one chick has dried egg goop all over it (it hatched this morning), should I just leave it be? Will it clean itself off eventually? Here is a pic. My other chick hatched out fine I don't know why this one had such issues I am sure the bator was humid enough.

Hi, I usually clean them off a little area at a time with warm water and a paper towel i dont know if it would hurt them to leave them like that but it bugs me so i have to clean the little ones off. i dont usually clean it all off at once just because i dont want them to get chilled so i just do one section then let them dry off again, ect... hope this is helpful

One of mine dried off like that too. I left it because as Drk_Wlf said, I did not want to chill it. Within 24 hours, the situation had corrected itself..I don't know how but it did.

I usually let my babies dry off on their own. It doesn't hurt them to have the gunk on them. It is only there cause they can't reach to preen the tops of their heads.

Due to hatch 10/31!!!

I use a dry, very soft wash cloth and rub very gently with a corner all over where it's all stuck to the chick and it fluffs them up up nicely and i've never had one to get to chilled. The room I do this in is of course warm because it 's the nursery anyway where they are all at. But I've been fluffing them up since i've been hatching eggs/chicks. Except for the quail. They're so hyper I think it blows off while they are running around like their little butts are on fire. lol

Woke up to a chick explosion in the bator!! It's a brinsea which should only hold 20 eggs (I have a few more in, heh), so I snatched out 17 babies this morning and put them in my second incubator. Wow! There are still eggs that could hatch so I may end up with even more.

Here they are (and yes, the incubator is open, but as you can see there's no eggs there lol.

It is red sex links so I am happy that for the first time I will be able to sex at hatch and know just how many girls I have right away instead of having to try and figgure it out later.
