One of my hens has just hatched 5 chicks. 2 of the chicks are light Sussex bantams.

The other 3 are light Sussex bantams cross bovan brown - now the hen is believed to be a bovan brown but it’s not 100% confirmed! The rooster is a light Sussex bantam.

All the chicks are solid yellow colours. Apart from one chick. It has a black stripe on its head and black wing tips. Just not sure if my believed bovan brown is a bovan brown or something else! Photos of mum, Dad and chicks

She looks like a Bovan brown to me, or some other brand of red sex link. Or she could be a Bovan brown cross of some sort. Impossible to know unless the breeder or hatchery tells you. Who knows how the one chick got the black markings, but I do know genetics can do weird things, so I wouldn't worry about it.

My next clutch hatched! Same rooster and hens used. Different hen did the brooding.

5 from this clutch too and like the other clutch, only one has a black mark on its head!
