Off-topic---kitchen knats-Help!!

First you MUST remove the offending fruit

Mason jar with a little CIDER or other SWEET vinegar (NOT the clear stuff) about 1/4 cup.
two or three drops dishwashing liquid (unscented is best)
swirl it around a bit but don't make bubbles.
Cover with plastic wrap or cling film tightly
Poke 5 or 6 holes in the plastic
Place the jar where the fruit was.

The little buggars think it's rotting fruit, go through the holes and can't get out.
THe soap brakes the surface tention so they sink and drown.

WOW! Finally had a bunch of luck on the knats. Thanks to everyone for the great suggestions. I sort of put some of them together. Got a glass, put about an inch of apple cider vinegar in bottom, couple drops of dish soap, and filled up to about a half inch from the top with water. Then covered tightly with plastic wrap and punched about 5 or 6 holes. Next morning, I must have had a hundred knats drowned in it. Had NO IDEA there were so many, tho they were becoming a problem. Now one more question. WHAT can you do with bananas that usually are in a fruit bowl on our table. Hubby loves them, eats a lot of them, and likes them handy. If you put them in the refrigerator, they turn black. What do the rest of you do with them?? Thanks again.

If you put them in the frig only the skins will turn black the inside will still be good to eat. If you want to put them up until your fly problem is solved you could make frozen banana pops out of them.

Take the bananas peel them and cut them in half and stick a Popsicle stick in the flat end of each half. Lay them out on a cookie sheet and freeze them. When they are good and frozen take them out of the freezer and dip them in melted dipping chocolate and put them back in the freezer. If you like a lot of chocolate you can double dip them once the first coat gets hard.

This was one of our favorite summertime treats when the kids where little.

If you close them up in something air tight to keep the flies off of them they are going to get ripe very quickly.

You can also get a fruit dome, which is like a screen tent you can put over your fruit to keep bugs out. They're usually available in the picnic/seasonal section.

If you find flies in the tent, you'll know they came from that batch.

(ETA pic) They look something like this:

once you've killed most of the knats, go ahead any buy more fruit, just not so much.
Don't let it sit around for more than a day or two.
And you can move the fruit bowl from room to room to confuse the buggars. The only thing that stays in one place is the "Death Jar"
