I agree. Yarn is pretty but it has -12 windstopping power. You'll want a Columbia or something in that family... or arctic carharts....

Glad you had some recommendations, Sparkles. I wanted to follow up my comment with a recommendation on where to look for a warm coat, but my "winter" jacket is a lined hoody, so I have no idea what coats are the warmest. I have an old ski jacket I stole from my little brother to use when I feed the critters, but I doubt that's warm enough for a MI winter, either.

I have 2 leather jackets as well, one riding lenth, and one full trench coat. But as a concept "fall" and even "winter" here is a vauge thing. I think i wear a coat maybe a month a year, so I need an inbetween coat for fall/spring. also, well, i'm never so cold as to ponder a snuggie, and all my robes are silk.

I always buy stuff thats rated to -30f or -40f, my boots are rated to -40f and my feet still get cold.... and I hate shoes, go barefoot or in flip-flops till it snows.
I am discovering that I don't need a supertastic coat per say, so long as I layer a tank top, a long sleeve, a hoodie, then the coat... or just get a super rated coat and skip the layers.

For hunting I layer cause sitting in the stand is killer but the minute we start pushing timber I sweat like a porcine type creature.

Poor, poor Saddi..... You are going to FREEZE!

Artic Carhart, Columbia or Land's End. You want a HEAVY coat. I don't know how LE works for the ultra cold, but I get 'em for the kids who outgrow their coats in 2 months, since they are cheaper.

I get my kids columbia 2 sizes too big... then they wear a hoodie under it till it fits to keep that pocket of cold air away. Columbia lasts so that DS#2 can use it after DS#1 is done, and its still almost new. and Kamik boots, will never but anything else.

Hrm. May give that a try. My problem is with the boys, they've outgrown a coat DURING winter, so 2 coats. Gak.

lol layers? yeah, we don't do that either, just underpinnings and then light clothes (today is a gauze chiffon sundress). We spend 1 day a week at the beach so suits and a cover up, I don't know anyone who owns a scarf.

Well, the male donor is dead. A halfway happy day at least. He's actually the one I liked better. Apparently he was normal enough and decent before he came back from Vietnam. Then he just went to be the same as the female donor. Who is the scary evil thing from hell. I felt more for him before I married DH who proved that no matter WHAT they see when deployed, there is help out there and they are not required to be psycho evil people. DH has been deployed more than the male donor was, I don't know all of what he's done and seen, nor will I, yet he's still a kind and loving person, a great father and husband and I have no regrets marrying him.

I have never used it even when it snows. Go figure.
