baskets.

Get a few of those dollar-store plastic baskets, and put those in the cupboards. now everything has a basket, and it helps divide up the space.

the prior owners had a lab, or two, and while I smapooed all the accessible carpet areas twice and vaccumed twice, the area behind the couch is still all matted up with 1/2 inch of dog hair. I'm sorry but I don't see how it can make a person happy to spend their free time in a mobile hairball....

Used to work in a preschool, that was our solution to shelves, each kind of toy had a basket, take out the basket, get what you want out, and put it back. Makes it look tidy, even if you just dump things inside it.
