We always had to wear helmets if we rode bike on pavement... my kids have the same rules. The closest pavement is over a mile away.

ETA:
once we get to the age where they can ride fast or try jumping then helmets will be more enforced. Right now falling in the grass at .02 MPH isnt worrying me

Pavement for us is 1/2 mile away, so my kids are pretty much always riding on the dirt driveway. I'll admit, though, I crashed and burned on my bike on the driveway last summer and I still have the scars on my knees to prove it. A crash hurts no matter the surface...I've been thinking of being the world's biggest dork and getting some knee protectors. And before anyone comments on that, remember we are following the rules here!

I was actually referring to the evil lurkers who seem to take everything the wrong way...

Really, I am the world's biggest klutz and probably shouldn't get out of bed in the morning without helmet, wrist guards and knee protectors in place.

Another reason to call us the OWies....

I am the same. I am the geek who roller skates in knee & elbow pads, wrist braces, and in sweatpants over 6 pairs of shorts in case I land on my butt. I like to skate but its not worth the fear. I can barely walk without hurting myself.

I don't wear a helmet when I skate. I've thought about it. But I'd rather have a mouthguard to protect my $1000 teeth.

Speaking of which, one of my royal teeth is bothering me. I really don't want to go get a root canal on a tooth that was crowned last year. I don't wanna spend the $. I'm hoping a lot of Alleve and being careful will either make it well or make it die more quietly.

I used to play roller hockey.....wearing a helmt with full face cage. You would be amazed how many times per game you get whacked in the face.

That was fun. Wish they had a local league for women here. GREAT exercise. Closest thing we can find around here is a roller derby. Sigh.
