Well, after a crowned tooth, DD's band fees, and stuff for DD to take to camp, at least 3 paychecks will laugh at me as they whiz past me on their way to their new home at the MasterCard office <sigh>

DD leaves for camp today. This will be the longest 10 days EVER. Between flashbacks from last year and chores to accomplish while she's gone, I will be one miserable mom. And if DH says one single chipper thing about having the house to ourselves I will

On a more positive note, I signed up for an evening writing class next week with a local humor writer I really like. Since I haven't heard back from the writing contest, I figure this will at least keep me from losing my patience with them.
Ironic that the 2 stories I submitted are NOT funny, and yet humorous stuff is what I'm known for within my family. I fully expect to lose the contest, I'd just like them to hurry up and confirm that I'm a loser.

I think I have 2 broodies. Crap. One is Dozer--which makes this her third batch of chicks this year. Dozer will be a year old on 8/25/10. And the other is an ancient OEGB named Banshee (because she screams if you go anywhere near her--she was a resuce)

Dont they know it is HOT in the nesting boxes? Stupid broodies.

I have a very determined girl that I finally gave in and put some eggs under.
One good thing about summer broodies is that when the space cadets get confused and set on the wrong nest after snack time it really doesn't slow anything down.

I have to lock them in the nesting boxes once they go broody. Otherwise the stupid girls would sit on one batch, then sit on the next and just ruin all the eggs for the day. It is already 116 outside, so the eggs could incubate themselves in the shade. Even collecting 2 times a day the broodies can run the week's eggs.

Maybe it is a good thing most of the girls close up shop for this part of the summer. I put a fan out there, but until it starts raining, it is toooooooo hot. (it will still be 100 degress at midnight most nights

I'm getting ready to move my dingbat in with the teenagers so that she can't get lost any more.
I don't consider them ruined, but scramble them for the hens that are molting. Then I can just crack & crush and not look too closely at them. But I'd rather be able to safely collect the eggs, or have another broody go off. These are project eggs, and I turned of the bator, so another broody wouldn't break my heart.

I'm grateful because we're getting rain today. We may even get more tomorrow.

Showoff.

I know. Being 8" below normal is nothing to ya'll.
But here, where we expect to see green, its a bad deal and makes farmers cry.

The monsoons have started here, but the city generates so much heat, the clouds get forced around it. I can see the thunderheads and the storms curning up, but they hit Scottsdale and all just squooosh around the city. It stinks.

Aren't you kinda in a bowl, too? I remember being there for Christmas a coupe of years ago and there being a terrible haze over the area. Took strong winds to finally clear it out.

When we had the bad drought 2 years ago, we used to 'joke' about how we have a bubble over our house. It was exactly like you describe: We'd watch rain clouds form, could actually see the lines of rain falling all around our area, but we'd have blue skies directly overhead. It was seriously depressing.

I learned to love our bubble when bad storms went through our area last spring. Big trees smashed down all around us, but we had nothing worse than a stiff wind. I'm just grateful the bubble isn't keeping today's rain away. My baby redbuds & lilcs need it! Not to mention the maters and hers for future sghetti sauce...

I knew it was hazier than I'd ever seen it before, and joked about the stupid people who moved to the desert for relief from allergies.

No, it won't be Friday until there are days and days of suffering and joylessness.
Am scheduling a girl's night with some friends so that I don't go bonkers (more bonkers than usual).
