Office Work.......

Just went to leave and realized I left my purse at the restaurant where we ate luch. Sigh.

Got in the car to go to the bank, post office, grocery store, fabric store and of course to pick up said purse, and my car battery was dead. BIG SIGH.

So now I'm sitting here waiting for my faithful mechanic to come rescue me. Thank God his shop is only three blocks away and he does house calls...or in my case office calls. By the time he's done the bank and fabric stores will be closed, and I really had three blankets I wanted to get done by the end of the weekend. HUGE SIGH.

I'm going to get groceries, do chores, make supper, exercise, tuck the the kids in, and then drink heavily until bedtime. That whole five minutes probably won't get me very far, but it's a nice idea in theory.

No longer golden.......so I've emptied out the mail box since I dont' have as much space any more......don't worry dacs, there are a lot worse things than not having access to all the garbage online!!!

I went gold because of selling eggs. Can post more listings and the extra mail is an asset. I tend to save too much mail anyway...

I was in a good mood for the first hour of the day. Then I went downstairs and found that the waterer had leaked all over the brooder. The healthy chicks will be okay, I think, but little Norman was in a bad way.
I should've culled Norman days ago, but the little guy was such a fighter. He barely made it out of the shell, and I didn't think he'd make it 24 hours. But he did, despite walking like a runner duck and peeping constantly. Last night he was looking pretty rough, and I almost put him down. But he kicked me really hard and so I thought maybe he'd snap out of it. He clearly wanted the chance.

After hours of laying on a damp puppy pad, Norman was a shivering, peeping, pitiful mess. Still alive, but absolutely miserable. I cuddled and warmed him, told him I was sorry, and put him down. He didn't fight this time.

Everyone else was glad to get back into a dry brooder with a pile of food. They won't miss Norman.

Glad the ground is soft.

Glad it's Friday.

Glad I was only 1 minute late for work, despite a cleaning, a killing and a burial.

Aw, sorry to hear about Norman Lori.

My cat is named Norman. He is defective as well.

On a slightly morbid yet kind of funny sidenote: only us chicken people can get up, take care of 50-100 birds and still make it to work reasonably early. I brought out a big bag of hard boiled eggs for the chickens this morning. Full gallon bag full. I gave some to the rooster pen, all the mommas and babies, Mr Mottled in his rubbermaid tub, plus the younguns that hang near the bottom of the yard, and the big flock hanging out in front of the garage. Refilled a couple feeders and waterers. Let all dogs out to pee and get a drink, cleaned up after them, gave the cat his medicine and showered. Did all of this in about 25 minutes. I obviously win at life. OBVIOUSLY. i even straightened my hair.........

I listen to coworkers who get up at 5am and I think.....hmmm.....I get up and do 40 times as much as you in about 15 minutes. Slackers.

Sorry about Norman, Lori. Not a good way to start your day.

I was thinking about that the other morning. I get up somewhere between 6 and 6:14, depending on how many times I hit the snooze. Between that time and 8 a.m., I shower, do situps, get dressed, put on makeup, do my hair, get both kids up and into the shower, round up clothes for the youngest one, make them both breakfast, make and eat my breakfast, let the dogs out, feed and water the chickens and let them out, feed my oldest horse out in the yard, put out a bale of hay, put the horse back in the pasture, medicate the Fluppy dog, get the kids out the door to the bus, make lunches for Joe and I (most days), and drive 15 minutes to get to work.

And then I wonder why I'm tired by the time I get here.

Sorry about Norman, Lori. I hate when I have to put one down.

Nella, you obviously win at life. I don't take care of my chickens until early evening. I'm not at my best in the morning.

They have a feeder that holds 100# of feed, a watering system that holds 4 gallons of water and 24/7 access to their run, so they aren't in urgent need for anything. I meander down after they should be done laying eggs for the day and distribute the day's kitchen scraps.

One of my rabbits died yesterday. She was huddled in the corner of her cage the day before yesterday. Her waterer wasn't working properly, so I thought she was just thirsty and gave her a dish of water right under her nose. When I checked on her yesterday it looks like she fell in the dish of water, she was all wet and chilled and still lethargic. I brought her in and set her near the woodstove to warm up and a few hours later she was gone. At least she was warm and as comfortable as I could make her. She was only about 6 months old and she had really great type, I really wanted her for my breeding program.

Sorry to hear about your bunny Ms Belle. In better news, you have not yet gone into labor.......quick go for your haircut! Today is the day, right?

I switched to these DIY bucket feeders and each one holds about 30-40lbs. I have 2 out and I try to fill them up once a week, so that cuts down on my morning work. i have two water bowls down near the garage and fill up 4 big buckets of water at a time to refill them with during the week. My rooster pen has only 4 bantam roosters and a 12lb feeder and 3 gallon waterer, so they basically get glanced at every day or three.

I still need to do some winter work to get things even better prepared for winter. Probably should put a 3rd bucket feeder out so I can definitely make it to the weekends for all "refills". Planning on swinging by home depot tomorrow morning and getting a few bags of gravel and some more lumber. Going to level out a spot in front of the garage and set up some temporary pens. I made some super easy hutch plans last night, so I am goign to work on building them tomorrow. I need somewhere to move a couple roosters, or a broody with babies.

Wow, Belle, sorry about your bunny!

I am not as active as Beaner & Orchy-pants in the morning. I just tend the house animals in the am, get the coop tended in the evenings.

Me and the guinea pig are having a contest of wills. I won't give treats unless she lets me pet her. She'd rather I just tossed the treats in. So she squeals, I reach in, she runs and chatters angrily, I close the cage, walk away, and she runs to the edge and squeals at me again. I repeat my part twice, she repeats her part 3x. Last night she let me pet her GOOD because I had a handful of dandelion & strawberry leaves in my hand.
My daughter laughs at the contest of wills. She hardly ever plays with her pig any more. I'd replace the gp with a lionhead bunny, except that I'm getting attached to the stupid gp

You should replace it with a super fat grayish mini rex female bunny. She doesn't make any noise, just eats her weight in food everyday. OINK OINK.

I love my little lionhead mix bunny. he is super cute. He runs to the front of the cage and digs in the corner cause he wants to come out. Then he jumps up with his front feet on the side of the cage and licks his nose and its SO CUTE OMG.

Of course, if their little romp through the bedroom a week or two ago was, er...."fruitful"....I may have some mini rex/lionhead bunnies available in a couple months. Bet they would be the cutest EVER. Hoping nothing happened........

Crazy bunnies...
