Oh man, I've been reading those posts and cringing. Why do birds drop dead for no reason, then when you NEED them to die, they jump up and run around screaming their fool heads off?

Nope. Then you could just dig one big hole.

yeah - it's better if they do it all at once. Then it's not "OMG what will I find today" drug out for weeks......

Been there, done that.

Had 2 black d'Uccles with spraddle leg. Is it bad that I don't even get very sad any more? I just 'deal' with it and move on. I'm gentle, and I tell them why and all that. But I don't dread it the way I used to. That seems wrong...

I did that, and it TOTALLY did not work out for me. In retrospect, I should have just wrapped it in a towel and backed over it with the minivan. Instead, I wandered up and down the street trying to find a neighbor to help me. Of course I was sobbing unconrollably, was dirty from working in the coop, and looked scarily disheveled. The DH had taken ALL of the neighborhood men to a charity poker game, so there was no one to help...

I think backing over it would be creepy, and yet I pull, clamp and count to 100.
DH would do it for me, but he would expect some token of my gratitude.
They're my birds, so I do the deed.

We did the vinegar/baking soda thing for his chicken girlfriend when she became egg bound. Next time I do a larger bird I'll try the dry ice method, sans explosion.

And then the police showed up and carried the crazy woman off to the "white room" all the while trying to decipher her blubbering gibberish. Children were not allowed to play outside for weeks afterward.
