Officer (Leskin) Well I swear this is never ending post 306

My point about closing the curtains from time to time is not about whether what you're doing is legal or not. The point is, it allows you to go about your daily business, legal or otherwise, without an audience; and thus have greater odds of peace and quiet. Sometimes you have to be proactive about peace and privacy if you really want it.

Sigh...... I am lost.....
It does not help to quote just small sections of the ordinances or even laws that are not part of the ordinance.

What exactly are you zoned?
What does it say you are allowed for that zoning?

We are really missing something......where or why are you talking about making a profit or not?

It sounds like contacting a lawyer is your best bet. Hopefully the lawyer will go over the ordinances and know what can be applied to your situation.

This board is a wealth of information on how to get things changed. It is also a great place to sound off about idiot neighbors.
I sure hope things work out and you can keep your chickens!

I know nothing at all about legalities on ordinances, but is it possible that.....
There is no ordinance specifically about owning chickens (fowl) in a single family home, and that if they do PASS an ordinance against it, you could be grandfathered in, and then there is nothing they could do legally. I mean, maybe if they make it so that you are forced to remove them, then pass the ordinance or pass one in the meantime, you would not be able to replace them? Maybe you should check what's on the upcoming agenda at some of those board meetings....I don't know, but I don't trust anyone

OMG You're in PA - I thought everywhere in PA you could own chickens!!!!!!!!!! Isn't your state considered one of the largest agricaultural states in the US?? Something does not sound right

as a tax payer, i would be ticked if mine were going to an officer that is wasting money strong arming chickens!
This dude is a big double sized XXX....
Call the media about this! Call his supervisor!! Ask them if they support wasting tax payers money on fighting chicken crime vs REAL crime?

NEWS AT 6....what is your local police department spending your money on? CHICKEN STRONG ARMING!!

why in this world are they not eating donuts and fighting the bad guys. Now they resort to harassing chicken owners. You tax dollars at work!

Oh i can see the reporter now....LOL

i say for the snooping lady....become a nudist!

Farrier, Holly has a lawyer. The lawyer has found nothing in the ordinance that would prevent her from having chickens in her zoning. Despite repeated requests the township authorities have been very unclear and self-contradictory as to what is and is not allowed. She would welcome the issue being taken to court so that she can get a legal ruling and be done with the arguing and constantly shifting opinions by the township officials.

Sillystunt, please clean up your last post. I find the language offensive. There are minors on this forum, as well as old fuddy duddies like me.

Honestly .. I really do not care if she listens to everything or watches us. It only irks me when she reports what she overheard to the officer. And even at that I'm finding it a bit funny as the officer is ready to cite me on hearsay, not evidence. He himself never witnessed what he came by to tell me I couldn't do.

WOW is all I can say. I use to live in a small town with the same type of "family based officials". One time (not to go off topic but to show the intelligence of this program). A man had just gotten off work and was sitting in his privacy fenced back yard drinking a beer. Not unruly nor throwing a wild party, he was arrested for public intox.

It was(may still be) illegal to have a 6 pack or more of beer(now Oklahoma is a 3.2 percent or less alcohol state) in you home with minor children under the age of 18.

Same "program" got a call about a snake at a neighbors house that the home owners were away on vacation and the officers shot the snake missed the 1st time and shot a second time killing the snake. It was in a bird feeder hanging in a tree. The 1st shot that missed the snake shot a 5 yr old little boy and killed him while he was fishing with his little brother and grand father. It took forever for these officers to be fired and brought up on charges and the powers to be that gave them the order to shoot to be fired. One is still assistant in the local police department. Oh by the way the snake was just a plain ole black snake.

Its small town mentality. What I see here is the nice old lady living next door that has been there since moby was a minnow and you are new to the area she has more "pull" with the officer. Its just wrong.
As you have stated there is NO ordnance that states you can or can not have chickens.

And on the storage shed, that it is not being used for intended purposes, who are they to say what you can put in there so long as you are not using it as a 2nd family abode. AKA living quarters for humans.

Good luck in your fight. Right will always win. Or lets hope so.

Like you, my hens are not laying yet.
As I stated I know i should not have said what I did.
If I'm allowed to keep the chickens, Bonus for me!
But if the judge rules against my having them. Then that is as it is.
I do have a place I could keep them not far away.

I'm feeling a bit of hostility from you. But I'll assume that you are just trying to help, by giving me the other side of my endeavor. For that I'm grateful. It helps as I'm a bit dumbfounded to her thoughts.

THANK YOU

Those are horrible stories. and would be offended if it was to happen to me.
Your right though with the correlation.
Some laws and actions do not seem justified. A lot of it is because people are not knowledgeable on the issues. In my case ... I think they are afraid of diseases from the chickens. I did try to alleviate that fear, by printing off an informative letter about Chickens. That I gave to them.
My building permit is for a Shed/Chicken coop. So in that I'm not doing anything wrong.
