Maybe it's just because it's the end of their laying season. I've hatched lighter Marans eggs in the fall and raised the pullets. They laid nice dark eggs.

My hope is that these will provide a good start for this project. Now to get em to hatch

Me too. And they don’t look like pulley eggs @aliciaplus3 so I’d assume they’re at the end of the cycle.

the young turkeys are laying some.... I have a pen with a chocolate jake and 2 chocolate hens, a black hen and a Narraganset hen( they are laying ok). there is a young black pen with a heritage black jake from our lines over a couple of black hens from the same hatch and a couple Black Broad breasted that we bought this past April (this pen is not laying yet) we also have a mixed color pen with a red slate hen a BBW hen and several black hens the jakes are still young but there are a slate jake, a red bronze jake and a black jake.... I know I need to get a few out of here but the jakes do not seem to be ready to breed so??? and of course we have the 6 heritage blacks that we used for breeding last year in with the black tom and we added a Broad breasted black hen (she is laying). and one of my favorites is the slate pen, I "rescued" a trio of slates in may and added 2 more slate hens these girls are looking rough and trying to molt but I am still getting an egg every other day???
I should probably narrow down my pens to 4 breeding pens with a tom/jake and up to 6 hens per pen but I have not yet, thanksgiving is just around the corner right?

Your incubator looks quite interesting! What sort of heat source does it have?

I think it's a 1934 model.... i don't know much about the mechanics. I know that once the wafer is dialed in she holds temp like a pro!
