Here's Maleficent in all her molting glory at ~2.5yrs old. Last year she molted even harder than this, but I missed the contest. She feathers out with the most beautiful black feathers!

This was Jolene earlier this summer (blue d’Uccle hen). She was so full of pin feathers I was afraid to pick the poor thing up. She grew back in beautifully though.

She's 2 and the first to molt in my small flock of chickens.
It's crazy to see how quickly her feathers are falling out.
And it's really cold and windy outside...she may need a fur coat to go with that necklace!

Pinkie the Brahma 2 yrs old, an Rosie the RIR-Leghorn cross. These 2 molted the worst! But like you say - they fluff out so pretty afterward.
