And the moment you have ALL been waiting for, the announcement of the winners!!! :woot

But first...I thought I would go into more detail on the counting process so you can all get an idea of just how many feathers are in this pile!

So I began counting...when I got to 100 feathers I realized that not only is this going to take hours but I could very easily lose count if I didn't keep things straight! The following is 100 feathers...
20201123_125018.jpg

And so I continued counting and bagging them in 100's to keep an accurate count. Several cups of coffee later and many breaks because I was starting to see crosseyed, I was done counting and bagging! There are 3,664 total feathers in these bags. So as to be completely honest, I informed @casportpony @N F C and @oldhenlikesdogs of the count total.

So it was time to start arranging all these feathers. To give all of you an idea of what 100 feathers looks like compared to 3,664...see the following photos.

Great guesses everyone!

Before this goes any further I think I will give you a few hints so you can make the best guess. :)

All these feathers come from my last Black Australorp hen, Hilda.
DSCN1602.JPG

Large bird that weighed in around 7.5 pounds, extremely broody. (Not sure broodiness has anything to do with her feathers, but any info may help here. :gig )

She was 8.5 yrs old, it was fall and she was raining feathers. I decided out of curiosity to save them, I mean who doesn't wonder just how many feathers are on a chicken! So I picked up every type of feather from under the roost bar, in the coop, out in the run and any that didn't blow away outside for nearly 2 months. There are contour feathers, primaries, tail feathers, downey feathers, itty bitty face feathers, neck and butt fluff, you name it, it's in this pile! And the pile is solid feathers, no tricks! The pile diameter is approximately 2 ft.

Now these are NOT ALL her feathers, she didn't molt them all, many got lost in the bedding, some got lost in the dust bath, blew away and possibly eaten!

So there you have it. And remember you get 5 guesses! Good luck!
