I’m a beginner in that one As well with only a few projects under my belt. I’m teaching myself using you tube videos. I made a couple of mermaid tails for my granddaughters and a baby blanket with my niece. I’ve learned something f with each project. I tried to do a shrug but failed miserably so added ruffles to the ends and call it a lap blanket.

Nice work!

I love accidental “Hey, this is kinda cool, though” things. I was crocheting a lap blanket following a YouTube video pattern that I hadn’t tried before and it was coming along nicely. But somewhere along the line I messed up the pattern and I didn’t wanna unravel 2 or 3 rows to fix it. So I just pretended it was supposed to be like that, did a little creative decreasing every time I came to that spot, and made an armhole out of it. It was kinda to one side, not in the center. When it was done I had a blanket with a hole about 3/4 of the way up and off to the side. Hubby asked me what I was gonna do with it. But I had plans for it.

Next time we went back to South Dakota I gave it to my sister, who was undergoing dialysis 3 x a week. She was always cold in there, but couldn’t be completely covered so they could access her port and get her wired up for monitoring. That accidental arm hole made that blanket Linda’s “dialysis woobie” and she took it to every procedure. It covered her completely (she was only 4’11”), just her one arm with her access stuck out. She loved it, the staff loved it, and I loved it because it made someone I loved deeply so happy! And it continues to do so. Linda’s little granddaughter Ashley was diagnosed with leukemia at 6 years old. Linda was determined to live to see Ash ring her last chemo bell, and she did. Ashley still has to go in for regular testing, and now she snuggles down in “Grammy’s Woobie”, her little arm suck through that hole for her blood draws.

Never worry if something doesn’t come out just right. Sometimes a goof makes it just righter!

Any crafters make things for Hospice like lap blankets or hospitals. like pillow cases for kids or hats for cancer patients etc? I wish I had time to get involved with something like that, and that my hands could crochet for long periods too. I often thought of making the pillow cases for kids because they made such an impact on my kids when they were hospitalized, they still use them <3 I wish I could talk Harmony into sewing some. She is into way too much though :( hmmm in writing I wonder if a sewing for kids could be the next night out with the girls, like those painting parties
