I have most neighbors that don’t care.
And one made a comment that they hear the chickens. But they are in the woods, just built an expensive house… if my house is old and I can faintly hear the rooster when I’m in the house, then they are full of it. I did respond with his comment, “are you sure it is my flock and not the one on the hill, or behind you, or the farm down the road?” He admitted that he didn’t know for sure.

Keeping backyard chickens is a wonderful thing to do. It has great experiences and lessons that you can learn. On top of that you get eggs out of your pets and your eating healthier. However, your neighbors might not share your enthusiasm for poultry. So in this week's poll, we would like to find out: Have Your Neighbors Ever Complained About Your Chickens?
  • If you answered yes, can you tell us how you solved the problems?
  • If you answered with no, did you do anything special to prevent angry neighbors?
Please place your vote above, and elaborate in a reply below if you chose "Other".

Yes, I live in rural area. Neighbors live about a city block away and feeds the birds. The hens go through woods to eat the bird food. She left a pleasant note that she is afraid her constantly. Chained cocker spaniel ( live on highway) will eat them this was in the spring. Once everything grew in they are staying closer to home. But it hasn’t stopped her dog from barking constantly, lol

One of the hens flew over the fence and into the neighbors yard. He was amused, he came over and told me, getting that witch was not going to happen, so I said xxx it and let her run, hoping a cement truck would come her way. She wandered his yard, and some other yards, then a bit later at night, hopped up on the fence and kind of walked on the fence around the corner and looked at the coop for about ten minutes then flew back into the yard This is what he told me the next day as he laughed, and said it was good entertainment. From my POV, I think since she could not get back in the coop, she flew back on the fence, because that is where I found her roosting after it got dark and went and fish netted her, and plopped her back into the coop and locked it up.

Even months later, when I bring him eggs, he brings it up, the day she came in the yard and looked around and laughs. I was not amused because a few of my neighbors are real crinkle tarts, and could cause trouble if they wanted.

...crinkle tarts 🤣

where i used to live my neighbor loved them and would take pictures and let me know when they’d gotten out. now my neighbors are so far they cant really hear them, and they gave chickens themselves

Honestly, I'm just asking for my neighbors to complain about my chickens. I moved the coop and run between our to houses during this last spring time and I think their bedrooms are on that side of the house that the chicken run is semi near. So I would feel kind of bad having my rooster crow early in the morning and everything but then I remember that for the last 2 years their dogs have been terrorizing us trying to jump over our fence, constantly barking, and just being aggressive anytime we would go into our backyard and would not stop. I even spoke to them a couple times very nicely about it and they didn't seem to care that much. So, I do not care if my chickens make a lot of noise in the morning.
