Maybe with duck eggs, but not so reliable with chicken eggs; I tried.A guy that used to buy ducks from me swore he could sex eggs by their shape.
Excuse me?Just welcomed someone who is 83 years old. I'll have to get him to respond so that I am not alone in the 75 + bracket.![]()

I always had chickens as a child. When my husband and I moved out to the country 5 years ago I built a coop and run. I only have 5 white leghorns but they supply plenty for my family and some for our foster dogs. They are so tame and I just love them. How many of our peeps are really new to raising chickens and how many are old-timers?
In addition to answering the poll, please reply with some fun details, like:
What got you interested in raising chickens?
Did you ever "take a break" and not have chickens?
What breeds did you start with, how many, and do you have any pictures to share?
I always had chickens as a child. When we moved to 15 acres 5 years ago I built a coop and run. We have 5 white leghorns and the are prolific layers! They are also beloved pets. Attached is a picture of Henifer Aniston.

I had wanted chickens for a long time but couldn’t where we lived before. When we moved here I thought we couldn’t, but ironically the HOA dictator published a short “easy for us to understand” city regulations. On her sheet said chickens yes, but fell under nuisance noise regulations. We researched over the summer and got our 6 babies October 1 as day old chicks.
