These viruses spread naturally among wild waterfowl worldwide and can infect domestic poultry and other bird and animal species. Avian influenza viruses do not normally infect humans. However, sporadic infections of humans with avian influenza viruses have occurred.

I have covered my runs and wrapped all sides with wire that has openings small enough to keep birds out. I have convinced my wife to move all her bird feeders to the front yard and the side near the garden area. The chickens have access to the surrounding acreage but not these two smaller areas, which they seem to have learned to be content with. The one thing my wife is not so content with is having to debug and weed the garden herself and wait for me to come carry it all to the outside fence for the chickens to investigate.

I changed my vote to nothing.
We have this birdflu continuous where I live for 16 months now and it spread to all kind of wild birds.
The hpai isn’t going away anymore, just like Covid. I rather take the risk of a contaminated flock than confining my chickens for the rest of their lives.
Only if the Hpai comes near to my premises I will confine them for two reasons. A temporary higher risk, and more chance to get a fine from the authorities.

I have not done one thing differently. Not one.
I have not done anything different. Why? because i’ve lost faith in 3 letter governmental authorities! I believe for what ever reason our food manufacturers food growers and everything in our food chain has been attacked including baby formula and chicken feed… there are days i feel like something is undermining Americans!!! sorry about rant but i’m serious. 👋🐣✝️✌🏽🐔

Ditto the prayer part:thumbsup, HE is in control!
Yes! Yes!Yes!…. I am so thankful my hens made it through the horrible winter, Thank you Jesus ✝️ I do the deep litter method for perch area, I’m sold no odor and it’s worked by the girls. I toss in hand fulls of scratch and they turn the litter and at that point I add more straw it’s working great. So far no work.
Ditto the prayer HE is in control!

I’ve been doing the deep litter method also, it’s such a great insulator for winter too!
I need to try straw next time, I use different sized pine shavings.
