I'm not doing anything - yet. AI hasn't been detected in my state - yet. But here's what we're planning if/when it does:
  • Cover foraging area with tarps
  • Surround everything with netting to prevent any birds getting in
  • Boot washing station by run entrance
  • Dedicated "chicken" clothes and shoes
  • If it gets here and runs rampant in our area, we're bringing the whole dang flock into the workshop
My heart goes put to everyone around the world who is dealing with this directly.

We're still finishing our run. If wild birds have already dropped poop in it, should I be concerned? My babies still have several weeks left in the brooder before going out there? Is there anything to spray the run with prior to putting them out there?
Congratulations on your chickies, I envy you, they are so much fun!

It can be confusing when reading how long this virus lives and under what conditions. This strain seems to be stronger than previous ones according to reports. It didn’t live long at 80 degrees in sunlight before but they are not sure about this strain. I have read at cooler temperature it can live weeks.

I’m not sure what type of wild birds you have had. Waterfowl is more likely to spread it.

I would keep wild birds out with a tarp or something at least while your building. I’m not sure about what disinfectant to use. I hope someone else will chime in to help you with that. I don’t know what might disinfectant ground?

Maybe steam? You couldn't put a strong chemical down. Maybe big brother has something on their site?

Quick question. I'm not getting any eggs soon but I think this will be good to know.

If you bought hatching eggs from a breeder who's birds have Bird Flu would the chicks be carriers of Bird Flu?
