BONUS QUESTION: While eating chicken (or even eggs) do you ever feel weird thinking about what your eating in relation to your own chickens?
No, but I feel weird about giving them their eggs back. I do it, but it messes with my head.

No I don't. Not when speaking of the bird I'm eating by name, not when feeding them their own eggs back, and not when eating their eggs myself.

That said, I'm in the minority.

Other. This is my first flock and it wasn't intended for meat. With that said, I would certainly eat them. I know that they were humanely raised and what they ate.

No guilt at all and I not only feed them their eggs but also leftover chicken from dinner.

Same here -- though I only feed the eggs to the chickens if they're too soiled for human consumption. We love the eggs too much!

I don't eat a lot of eggs and my dad refuses to use mine (saw the birds pick through dog crap one time and now he thinks they're all contaminated) so I feed most of them back when sales are low

There's always food banks too. I often drop my extras off at the church food pantry.

Our local one only accepts nonperishables, plus since I'm unlicensed, they won't take any for freezing either

I hate to say but there’s usually a good reason. Once someone dropped off a load of cereals and similar at our churches food bank when I started going through it the stuff was over FIVE YEARS OUT OF DATE! FIVE!
