Official Christmas Hatch! c'mon and join

I'm in, I have Black Bantam Cochins due on 12/24. Pray that they come out ok, incubator was acting up the first week in- wildly fluctuating temps. I still see moving embryos, so my fingers are crossed.

I went on lockdown last night. 17 out of 21 made it to lockdown. I candled them all and saw lots of movement. This will be my 3rd hatch, can't wait!!!!

He cheeped and flopped all night long. He was by my bed in the incubator... This morning he still couldnt get up. His legs seemed to be fused in the bent position. they wouldnt straighten out at all. I looked at him and he was still flopping and then he was just dead. all at once. so I am not a bit sure what happened, but I really think it was for the best because it was obvious he has LOTs of problems.. couldnt pick his head up either. His neck was very limp. So I am sure he is much better off now than he was..

they all semm to have quit. going to get rid of them tonight so that I can set some more. They should have hatched on Sat and I feel that is the problem. It is a neurological problem it seems to me. Just think I will pitch them and start over.

charmedbychickens: I bet that was a tough day at work, trying not to focus on hatching thoughts. I have a picture in my mind of the little chick walking around with an egg shell hat. I see there are a few different egg colors in there, what breed is that chick? Congrats!

Lockdown for me today! 14 out of the original 26 made it...Pretty much what I expected, since these girls have just started laying. A good portion of the unfertilized eggs belonged to one girl, so I suspect she and my roo may have some problems "getting together", so to speak! The rest had blood rings...My next batch, due on New Years, has a much better fertility rate, only 1 of 13 was clear. My hatcher is in my computer room, so I get to look inside a lot!!!

Good Luck to everyone!

Officially on lockdown with 21 Mille Fleur D'Uccles from bantyrooster. And, so begins my days of sleeping in the recliner beside the Hovabator trying to keep the humidity up! I considered hatching in the Brinsea and putting the Light Sussex eggs for the New Year's hatch in the Hovabator but decided it against it. The Sussex are the expensive eggs and I am down to 5 out of 10 already. So they get to stay in the upscale accommodations.

I had a brilliant idea this morning though. I ordered the Brinsea Octagon ECO 20 for $99 (without the auto-turn cradle). I will use the Brinsea Advance to incubate and hatch my eggs. If I have a staggered hatch I can move the still incubating eggs into the ECO and put it in the auto-turn cradle and lockdown the eggs in the Advance. That way the hatching eggs will have the perfect temp and more importantly, perfect humidity! The ECO is supposed to be spot-on temp wise and pretty good at holding humidity. Then I will sell the Hovabator on Craigslist and go out for sushi with the money! The Brinsea will be here next week just in time to try out my system for the staggered New Year's and January 11th hatches.

And I shall sleep upstairs, in my BED!
