We have another one just about zipped and I have a question. The chick that is out is bouncing around all over the place and sometimes he can stretch up and touch the heating element! I am resisting openning the bator to get him out as he is not dried and there are lots of eggs pippin & zippin and I DON'T want my humidity messed up. Has anyone else had this problem?

I had a chick climb on the thermometer/humidity meter and hit his head on the heating element. It must have hurt a bit, as he hopped down and didn't climb back up again. Chicks are curious, so they peck everything. Touching the heating element is going to smart a bit, so my guess is that the chick will teach himself to let it alone.

well I officially ended up with 8. The other one that hatched last night died. I have now had a total of 6 live chicks die this hatch out of 15 plus the one that never made it out of the shell alive. This is awful :'-( I don't want to see anymore die. Thankfully besides the one that's blind in one eye they all seem healthy and happy, but this one seemed to be doing well to besides it's umbilical hernia.

I just dont understand what happened with these three. oh well. Maybe the power outage had more affect on them than I want to admit. I just dont get how the other four who hatched post-outage are fine. *sigh* This hatching thing can be heart breaking. I guess I should be happy for the 8 that I have though...I think I'm going to finally try and go get some pics of them.
